Brilliant video Mike, I bet Adi is well pleased and I just love the streamlined Castle, which I believe is a one off scratchbuilt body, as these were never produced by Hornby, as far as I am aware. Regards Geoff

Good of you to help Adi out Mike. It's interesting to see the innovation in using odd stuff like a pencil rubber to make repairs. I have a Hogwarts Castle ( more warts than castle) that might challenge you though. David.

Cheers David, you mean you have a poorly one

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited This one came out of a rubbish skip Mike. It appears to have been dropped at some point and the front buffer beam broken off. It has been glued back on but poorly done. Also the front pony truck had no wheels. Finding the right ones would be difficult I think. It is a Bachmann with a split chassis. It does run decently though. David.

Thanks Al, I left out the very basic stuff like putting only a tine drop on motor armatures etc, do you think that was right?
@LaytonJunction4 жыл бұрын
yes but there are newcomers coming back to the hobby so it wouldn't hurt to maybe do a video showing the basics not a criticism mike just your channel has such a wide appeal it wouldn't hurt perhaps to do one for beginners you be surprised hope that helps al 😃👍👍👍👍
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited4 жыл бұрын
I did wonder about that, I have my own castle to service, so I might do a full basic step by step on that one and add it as a reply here. Trouble with this video was it was at 14 mins already lol
@LaytonJunction4 жыл бұрын
you could do a quick basic guide for beginners as a separate video but whichever one you do i think it would go down very well even some experienced modelers have problems taking the rolling stock apart 😁 and that includes me 👍

I have bought a Hornby Castle, poor runner, Spares or Repair. It is loco drive with the ringfield type motor. Mine is the same. Grease has gone dry on the gears. The motor has been well oiled and the commutator and brushes are black. The red covered electrical items on the one you showed are not on mine. Are they wire wound resistors?
@ModelRailwaysUnlimited3 жыл бұрын
Hi Duncan, those red covered things are inductors, you can omit them as long as the capacitor is fitted

@@ModelRailwaysUnlimited The motor has had a lot of oil in it. I gave it a good clean out and I have the bottom plate off now. Oil everywhere.
