I have to give Woodland Scenics credit for all they have done to make scenery simple. Back when I started modelling, instructions would typically include go this store, find a distributor of that, and mail order from this company. Even though train and track development was coming along nicely, scenery took a back seat and advice was as varied as peoples' track plans! You can still experiment and modify your techniques, but especially if scenery daunts you, just do it the WS way. Well done.

I've always been fascinated by dioramas with water scenes...I remember going to a museum as a kid and seeing a diorama of a Native American tribe and they had a cross-section of a river with tiny salmon suspended in it and I was like HOW DID THEY DO THAT and now I'm learning the tricks they use ;)

Hello Van De Rach...I think you may be referring to the release paper, to which Matt applied the Water Effects to make the waterfall. He used lined freezer paper that you can purchase at most grocery stores. You could also use a cookie sheet with a non-stick surface, like Teflon. FYI...waxed paper will work, but leaves a film on the backside surface of the Water Effects. Hope this helps!

@ModelSceneryExpert11 жыл бұрын
The water on the ground was modeled with Realistic Water. The Realistic Water should be poured according to the directions on the bottle and fully cured BEFORE adding the waterfall. When the Realistic Water is fully cured (to a glass clear state), add the pre-molded waterfalls. Then, dab Water Effects onto the cured surface to model splashes and current.

The items mentioned in video are Water Effects, Realistic Water, Plaster Cloth, Earth Colors Liquid Pigments, Lightweight Hydrocal, Rock Molds and Foam Boards. You need something to cut the foam, i.e. Hot Wire Foam Cutter or foam knife, newspapers, and a variety of turf and other scenery materials to model the realistic landscape. Two other videos will help you with your model - How to Color Plaster Rocks with Earth Colors Liquid Pigments and Easily Model Realistic Ground Cover. Hope this helps

Great video m8.. I have been wanting to start building layouts for a while I scratch build rc aircraft and do a lot of painting of diecast models and some custom airbrushing. .as a kid I went to roadside America in Pennsylvania had that modeling bug ever since then
@ModelSceneryExpert10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Hope you can begin building that layout soon! If you can't start yet, or don't have the room, you could always create dioramas for your diecast models! I have seen some amazing ones, that set these models into historical context, creating some captivating scenes. I have never been to Roadside America, but sure would like to see it someday! Happy Modeling!

I have used Realistic water for small projects and love it. I recently made a small lake and used epoxy for the first time. It did not cure right due to low temp. And is very sticky. Can I use Realistic Water over this epoxy?
@ModelSceneryExpert11 ай бұрын
Realistic Water is a pretty reactive substance. While we have not tested it with every epoxy, placing Realistic Water on top of any improperly cured epoxy will likely have some issues. We recommend tearing out the improperly cured epoxy and sealing the water cavity with Plaster Cloth and one of our Water Undercoats or 100% acrylic paints before using Realistic Water. Best of luck building!

Umm - Hi there Are you *really* putting in all the waterfalls and roughened Water Effects BEFORE you pour the Realistic Water?? I doesn't look like this when you are applying the waterfalls and Water Effects in the video. I've been doing some tests with the Realistic Water and am ready to try out some different waterfall techniques. Thank you for this, your diorama looks great-I love the rocks and underwater painting.
@ModelSceneryExpert8 жыл бұрын
In this video produced by one of our experienced modelers, the waterfalls were completed first then a very thin layer of Realistic Water was poured very carefully not to mix with the Water Effects. This process can be done this way, but for easier application we recommend to pour your Realistic Water first, then attach your waterfalls and apply your Water Effects, once your Realistic Water is completely dry.
