What I would also take into consideration is how likely is the deck to get banned and/or to get irrelevant. Decks like Burn, Tron, UW Control, Amulet have proven time after time that they are format pillars and even though they might not always be on top, they are always playable.

I really agree with this analysis of the meta, it was very honest and could be helpful to newer players. One thing I’d love to stress is just that (like said) there are ALOT of cards and combos that can viably work in modern, I have my own janky GW hardened scales humans deck that will probably never compete at top meta game but is still very fun and wins a good amount of games

Budget is a concern, but something else to consider is your personal playstyle. If you prefer quick fast paced go burn. Slower paced, control or midrange

Another hint from a player who started in 01 is high high priced decks also have a higher chance of getting banned out

So in the spirit of asking the "stupid question", why does fetchless Burn have Eidolon of the Great Revel? You run zero cards that cost more than 3, so surely it hurts you more than your opponent when you sling spells to their face?

The first deck I thought for controly stuff + combo is the creativity deck.

I don't know if I would call Cascade Rhino a combo deck. Feels more like a midrange deck to me.

I'd say definitely combo since it relies on more than one card to cheat on costs. It definitely can play as a midrange deck but it's optimal plays and the things it wants to do is combo.
