Admittedly, it's a LOT of draw notes. So on that one out-chord, you've got to let the harp fall away slightly from your upper lip and get ALL the air back out. that will set you up for the many draw notes that follow. It's actually very easy: equilibrium must be achieved by any means necessary, so that you can play for days without drowning.

I've played Hohner Marine Bands for more than 30 years and lately became an official endorser. To me, they're the reference standard. The quality is variable; I've always said that if you take 5 MB's, one will be fantastic, one will be unplayable, and three will be decent. I've bought and owned many hundreds of MB's in my career. That's about right. 4 out of 5 ain't bad.

The reason the blues brothers version of sweet home Chicago is so well loved? The brass riff repietition that ties the song and all those long solos into one musical celebration.

I'm not sure what you mean. You can certainly play it on a C harp, in which case you'll be playing it in the key of G. (Cross harp.) It won't sound the same as if you were playing it on an A harp, as I am here, because you'll be playing it in a different key: E, rather than G.

Good question. Most R&B and funk is played cross harp or third position--or chromatic, with Stevie Wonder being the final answer on all that. Some country is played cross and some is played first position. I don't know about Latin. Check out Randy Singer on ALL these styles. No, I almost never play chromatic, don't bring one to gigs, and have never recorded on one. I play a little, but very little.

This is usually caused by a misaligned or stuck reed in my experience. Crack it open and see if there's anything wrong. Might be a little piece of skin or something in there making it stick. When starting to play harmonica, getting the right amount of air is the hard part. I solved my problem by learning to selectively draw air through my nose, especially with the two draw. Try drawing with your nose open.

Hi Adam, loving the videos - the best instrumental instructionals I've seen on here by a long shot. I was wondering if there was a video that dealt specifically with the more difficult bends - I can't get a satisfactory 1 hole draw bend on any harp, and can only get whole tone bends on a Bb or higher. Tried imagining the draw point coming from further back the tongue, didn't help much - is it just a case of dumb perseverance? Just dead frustrating, Harlem Riff 2 and CC Rider are ace
@Modernbluesharmonica
@Modernbluesharmonica 16 жыл бұрын
No. I mean you can play the same riff, but it will be three half steps higher and so it won't sound anything like the riff on the video. Let me be blunt: my KZbin channel is NOT for players who have only one harmonica! It's for players who are serious enough about the instrument that they make the committment to purchase at least three harps, however cheap: A, B-flat, and C. Although I occasionally play a D-flat, D, E-flat, and F harp, those aren't mandatory. The other three are.

Hi Adam. Love this riff - it sounds really great and "heavy" with the amp. I manage to play both parts (rather slowly), but after 2 or 3 repetitions I am left without oxygen. I think I'm inhaling too much or exhaling too little, or maybe it is the other way around... Could you please give Your advice on how to maintain and manage the air flow ? Or perhaps give a reference to another video ? Thanks, Amit.
