So far your wrist position is the best I have ever seen amongst calligraphers. I myself write with the 45 degree angle in a super underwriter's grip in order to prevent smudging. I wish more people adopted such writing style, so that left hand writing wouldn't be awkward and inconvenient. Great work keep it up

I'm new to calligraphy and also a lefty. I want to know on how do you keep your hand from touching the wet ink and smudging, as well as how do you keep on creating a firm upward line. Also, I like that kind of paper. It's easier to see how much space you'll need to write a letter. Unfortunately it still isn't available in my country

AlphaIkaros Take a regular sheet of paper and print those guidelines. You can find them easily on Google.

You are one of the few lefties that I’ve found that doesn’t curl! Thank you for posting these videos! It is so helpful to know that it IS possible for me to write calligraphy- left handed and I don’t curl my hand either! I’ve tried so many different pens out there but they just don’t work for me no matter how I adjust... it is very frustrating! I might just have to try what you use! Thank you again for posting this! You give me hope! 🤗

Hey Tabetha! It was SO hard for me to find tutorials for lefties that didn't curl, which is why I really wanted to make one. Writing at a 90 degree angle OR MORE is so inconvenient and I was like "there has to be a better way" haha. Anyway, this video is already more than a year old and I've learn & improved so much, so I want to make another lefty tutorial soon that's even better!

ElisaAnne Calligraphy Not only that but they say that we should turn our wrist to the right so it mimics a right handed slant. I can’t do it! So thank you thank you again!! :) can’t wait for more!
@princessreilin7 жыл бұрын
I meant slant to the left. It’s a big pain in the wrist!!

how do you hold your paper? is it straight up and down or to you have the top of the page tilted to the right? I'm left handed and attempting to self teach myself so, any tiny hints are great! I also follow you on Instagram, I love your work! 😊

What if you write with a hooked hand? Is it still possible? I cannot write the way you do. Thanks.
@solfbeen5 жыл бұрын
It's possible if you rotate your page at 90° and write vertically.

SO!... As a left handed writer of such an art as you are....would you recommend using a straight dip pen or a left handed oblique dip pen???
@elisaanne7 жыл бұрын
I enjoy the straight pen :)
@dylanu66957 жыл бұрын
ElisaAnne Calligraphy .... Your as beautiful as your writing! Any type of straight pen in particular? I've enjoyed and respected the art of writing since age 7. I didn't play with "normal" toys. I always had a clean room consisting of my bed and a simple wooden desk that contained nothing more than an antique ink well I received from my mother, a jar of old ink and a raven feather quill. Also used turkey feathers but found they were too stiff. Anyway, even at that age, I felt the importance in "old style" handwriting. now today at 37, a left handed man, I still find it difficult to perfect my handwriting and to master the art as it be. That said...always looking for that... "perfect pen".

I have a very shakey looking upstroke. It isn't smooth curves. Is that something that will get better with practice or am I doing something wrong?
@elisaanne8 жыл бұрын
It will definitely get better as you continue to practice! Mine was very shaky at the beginning as well. It takes a little while to figure out :)
@christophersolares79988 жыл бұрын
Alexis Schneider It is definitely something that will get smoother over time. Keep in mind the amount of pressure that you apply when making hairlines, good luck!

I am a lefty, but write more like a right handed person, just my paper at a little angle. Are you using a specific lefthanded pen?
@elisaanne6 жыл бұрын
Use any pointed pen for dip calligraphy! Nikko G is a great option.

I have ink flow problems. it could be the ink or nibs. but it happens with every nib. I have. when I dip my pen and write a letter it makes really thick lines with no form. it seems to. be too much ink even when I take off the excess. what would you recommend for that problem.
@nicolewright13088 жыл бұрын
ElisaAnne Calligraphy thank you very much for your quick response. I will try it. being lefty it's already difficult. thank you again 😀
