Great video! I usually use 2D toolpaths and do the relief cuts by hand, but have been dabbling in using my shapeoko to do them. What CAD/CAM software do you use for the 3D cuts?

I break up my operations so I never have to run a tool path longer than 30 minutes. The longest operations are the finishing passes which could take up to 40 minutes but worth it.

Hello I would like to thank you for sharing your CnC videos on your guitar building. I have a question for you, and that is I want to do some belly carve, but I'm brand new to the CnC world. My 1st question is what rough cut bit do you use to start the belly carve? My 2nd question is what is the finishing bit that you use for the detailing the belly carve. MY 3rd question is how do you make the software gradually taper down and take off the meat on the back? Thanks again.

I use a standard 2-flute flat carbide end mill for rough cutting, nothing fancy. For finishing I use a ball end mill. The taper is done with a 3D Adaptive tool path. I can specify the height of the steps. Little steps means less work for the finishing path. Most of the teles appeal is it's rootsie roadhouse simplistic bare bones design, any deviation from that and it is not an attractive advantage to its design! Limba is however the best tele tone-wood bar none! Otherwise get a PRS or Les Paul, and leave the tele design alone it's already as good as it gets!
