I have been enjoying a lot of comics the past few years since the big two’s put out runs that interest me or gotten me into characters I hadn’t before. (And of course countless of great non-big two I’ve been loving too) I do think that I wish they marketed or distributed their stuff better.

@@MysticalGreenBeanie Honestly the only reason I am not into mainstream superhero comics is because of their convoluted history and continuity but yeah I agree with the argument that too many artists and writers have been making their own interpretations of the character that it makes it difficult to follow it as consistent story. This is actually a major appeal of manga currently.

another thing that i keep on seeing/hearing from the comicsgaters are always ranting about "sales" of comics are down, rather than the quality of the stories being told. they always say comics sales are down, ever since the all new all different era of marvel. when in reality, we are not in that time period anymore and big 2 comics are doing fine.
@MysticalGreenBeanie5 ай бұрын
Sales aren't fine. But the quality of content has risen, and I hear no voices calling to that quality increase.

I guess it’s because my reach is very limited when it comes to reading stories about characters I’m most invested in. I’m happy comics are doing alright, but from my own pov, what the ppl in charge of the big 2 have done and said in & outside comics lately, I’ve become a manga consumer full time. I wish I shared your optimism man, but they’ve (dc & marvel) successfully turned me off from them.

Which I don’t understand because personally for me while there are some bad books out there that really pissed me off, on the other hand though it’s like you said mystic green beanie there are really good books out there like daredevil superman by Joshua Williamson action comics by PKJ the miles morales Spider-Man comic is good heck my favorite book from this year was Jeremy adams flash which was freaking fantastic and amazing in my opinion, but you get my point about that, my point is in general is this, I don’t understand why these people want to keep bash American comics 24/7 and say everything is bad and garbage when that’s not entirely true because it’s like you said the Indy market is doing everything great and we also have some good stuff from marvel and dc right now which I have mentioned before have been great, so at the end of the day in general I am just tired of these people keep on saying everything is bad and garbage and at the end of the day they should they are the problem not just the product itself and look for a solution and not work off negativity 24/7 at least in my opinion.

It's good to hear someone else talk about the nuances of this topic as opposed to just shitting all over the comics industry. To be honest Marvel and DC haven't been doing very well since the 90's. For example Marvel have leased their characters to other studios for years in order to make money. Such as Sony's Spider-man trilogy. Another aspect that's not spoken about is how capitalism falls into this. People don't have the disposable income and time to dedicate to comics as much anymore. Same with the media. People have shifted to quick bites of digestible content. Anxiety and depression at an all time high. People seeking out things they hate to comment on them. People really don't see the connection. And finally the pay for writers and artists and workers in general obviously.

Those were the days.

@@tzwhi1667 As the world's premier Ultimate Universe defender, that line was massively hit or miss. And are we really gonna sit here and pretend that House of M and Civil War were universally loved when they came out...? Besides, it's not like we ain't getting good books now. Mark Millar is still the king of quality block buster schlock. PKJ is reinventing the DC cosmology, Venom has been one of Marvel's best books, as has Moon Knight, Daredevil, Thor, and Hulk. DC's Black Label came out with Batman White Knight, Suicide Squad Get Joker, Aquaman Andromeda, and Batman Damned. Like...where is this drought of "good books"?

I am going to disagree on Venom Never having good books agent venom was good,i enjoyed the original venom early appearances with his original beef with Spider-Man,The Venom issue where Eddie nearly committed suicide was great, and The anti venom and punisher story was good. It was just during the Scorpion venom stuff happen that sucked. Though overall cates and Ewing have done wonders for venom. I always liked Eddie brock as a character but thoses two made me love him even more. It will always be ironic to me Eddie brock peter once biggest rival and opposite was allowed to grow up and have a kid p Before peter himself. Eddie literally has become more of a man then current comic peter and that's hilarious.

I've read a handful of the Venom minis, and I can't say I've been a fan, personally. I like a lot of the IDEAS before I like the stories themselves. I did like the Agent Venom era a lot though. And there was a Sensational Spider-Man arc where Eddie was dying of cancer that i thought was cool.
@javonscruggs82334 ай бұрын
@MysticalGreenBeanie though overall ever since cates Eddie Brock has truly evolved and become great again. I love how much of a character arc he has been on. Theirs a legit argument you can make Eddie brock has grown more as a person and character then current comic Peter Parker. Eddie brock is currently one of my favorite comic book characters and I am excited whenever he shows up.

@@CesoeFelony bro you sound like someone who "reads comics" via youtubers, and doesn't actually follow what's going on. Joker never got pregnant. In the backup feature of the joker maxi series, the running gag is that he's trying to get a GF, and he asks out Zatanna who curses him, and he vomits out clayface. All the dude heroes are back in their classic status quos (for better or worse in some cases). And I'm just gonna go on a whim and say you mixed up some AO3 shit with what DC's actually publishing, because that never happened. And New Warriors was cancelled before it even launched.
