You need to add a couple of handles to the inside back of the cubbies. You could be the world champion of hide & seek! Or small, temporary panic room. The former would be more fun.

What a fantastic idea, Shara. You have really completely reinvented this space. The entire project just oozes creativity, but the 'removable cubby' feature is just "Outa Sight" as I used to say during the days of my misspent youth. This feature also answers the question raised so often on The True Crime channel. "Where do you hide the body?" Thanks for sharing this video.

Thank you! Haha I remember the “outta sight” days 🤣 that was the big saying when I was young! So glad you enjoyed it! And also, that would be a good place to hide things…but I was thinking more along the lines of my secret stash of Oreos or like, Christmas gifts 🤣🤣🙈

Your living room looks cozy now! Very nice build. The black features you’ve added really look great. I like the design and especially the electric fireplace! They look and sound very realistic nowadays! Lol…). Glad Lucy got to make her mandatory appearance! As an afterthought, maybe you could have used the stressed brick look you did on the column and avoided the dreaded drywall. I’m with you, I detest working with it! Or, as you said ship lap would have worked too. Thanks for sharing another great, well designed project! Have a nice weekend Shara!

@@rahmawatidewi8047 …. Most units have an electric heater built in similar to a ceramic space heater. They usually a low and high heat setting and have a fan to help circulate the heat. The flames and sound you hear are for aesthetics and typically are very realistic.

Nice, A kid would probably think that space behind there would be an awesome hide and seek spot.

@Shara~ Love this design and how you aren't afraid to just tackle a project! You mentioned that you used Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black paint for the fireplace (gorgeous!), do you happen to recall which brand and specific color of white paint you have on your walls? It looks great on camera ... just the perfect amount bright yet easy on the eyes. I have been trying to pin down that sweet spot in various shades/brands of white paint....it's so much harder than I imagined! I would love to know what is on your walls if you have the information! Thanks ~Christy

Hi! Thank you! It’s Sherwin Williams Pure White. I painted the walls shortly before building this. 😊

That turned out GORGEOUS!!!! Now you've got me thinking of doing something similar in my family room. I would never use the heat for the fireplace (living in AZ!) so would a regular outlet be sufficient for the flames?
@WoodshopDiaries
@WoodshopDiaries 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you!! Yes, the existing outlet is no problem for just the lights. And it could probably run the heat too, but the circuit would be maxed. So to be safe, we are going to run a separate circuit for it (eventually-we have several to run at once so we are waiting to do them all at the same time to minimize the time spent in the attic ha!). But anyway, yes, the lights would run fine on the existing outlet. And if you don’t plan to ever use the heat, you can find electric fireplaces without the heat function that are usually significantly cheaper…so you may want to check that out before buying!

Can you explain why screwing the front wall into the ceiling trusses is a bad idea? Looking to do something similar and that was my plan but now you have me second guessing lol. Looks great!
@WoodshopDiaries
@WoodshopDiaries 2 жыл бұрын
Since this is just a fake wall and not really anything “important,” I really don’t think it matters too much, but trusses will move up and down with seasonal changes and so right now, they’re “lifted” and when it gets warmer outside, they’ll sink back down a little. I wasn’t really sure how the change up and down would affect my drywall and I didn’t want anything to be stressed and crack. So I anchored it to the floor only so the ceiling can move as it will and not really affect my wall here. I hope that makes sense. Again…not sure right or wrong, but that was my thinking
