The best thing about Modern family is the monologue at the end of episodes. The stories each member encounter may be different and seem unrelated at first but perfectly fit into the theme of that episode ( love, sharing, understanding ... )

When Luke asked if they think the thing could launch a human and Phil chuckled, paused and said, "let's do the pumpkin first" just shows how supportive he always is of Luke, never shutting down his ideas, no matter how seemingly inane it might seem. It's one of my fav moments of the entire show.

While, me being the realist, reminds him of the possible consequences of actions, help him make non emotional decision and also be there when he did indeed fail and help him get back up
