Can someone explain why MVL didn't want to take the bishop on F6 with his knight at 4:12 and mess up black's kingside pawns? that's the kind of move I would play without thinking. maybe that's why I'm writing comments on youtube and not playing in the GCT finals...
@yuristremel
@yuristremel 5 жыл бұрын
Interesting observation. I think that it's more of an strategic idea. The white pieces cannot acess the kingside so easily while black would be able to defend simply with the knight and queen, and even using the g-file for his own rooks. Also, the doubled f pawn will advance and press the white pawn on e4, so there is not any concrete advantage for messing black's kingside and that is probably why he took the good knight vs bad bishop route

14:35 "Not a straight forward thing to see". Seems pretty straight forward to me. You capture on g6, then play Kc4, not Kd3, block Qg4+ with Qd4, Kb3 after Qc8, Kc2 after Qb8+, Qd2 after Qh2+, move your king out of the way and slowly you will be able to promote the pawn, since the king on h3 and the pawn on f3, as well as the simple geometry of the board, will make it harder and harder for the white queen to keep checking the black king.
