Modern House Part 18- Wall sheeting, window openings and pickup work plus scaffolding

With the roof done it's time to start wrapping up the exterior sheathing and fine tuning all the window holes. There's lots to do but like the rest of the house you just start in and go project to project. It might seem sort of random sometimes but there's usually a reason for it. Sometimes it's easier to cut up a pile of wood and do a short project with it than it is to just move the pile again. It's also nice to see the scaffold start to go up because this means I'll have access to parts of the outside now that i'd like to finish. It's getting tougher to film since I move around so much but I think there's enough here for a good episode.

Hey man, saw this yesterday but got buried. I'm glad you found the series and the channel! There is more cool stuff in the works as well. I do work alone for simplicity mostly. Its way easier to keep the schedule in order and with zero dramas. I do sometimes overbook myself but it all works out in the end. If something falls thru I have one of the worlds longest project lists to do at home and usually jump at the chance to work on something here. I saw your other comment asking about shredpile and it's just a placeholder for a brand. I figure way more people would buy a hoodie or a set of graph paper doodle pads or a killer coffee cup with shredpile on them long before they would with just my name on there :-) so it's in place where it belongs if this trial all works out. Stay tuned for more!

Got excited when I seen your video posted. Then got a bit bummed because I seen it is only 43 minutes and 30 seconds long. I'm one of those who think the longer a video is, the better it is, lol. That said, all the videos you put out are great, no matter the length. Thanks for taking us along for the ride. It's been very enjoyable.

thanks George! I just sort of go with the footage that I have, I won't stretch it long because I feel it won't hold interest as well. I've had several short weeks lately for various reasons so it's been a struggle to capture as much. I'm glad you're enjoying them!

There’s so many things I like about the design of this house, the site lines down the hall to the stairs for one, the cantilevered cantilever at 17:40 and the views to that old forest are incredible. Thanks Nick! There are definitely bits of this one that I would incorporate into my own home if I ever get around to replacing it. Once you spend time around the floor to ceiling glass you really start to like it. Theres a couple views that won't really show up until the windows are in so I'll save them for that but yeah, this place is a looker. Thanks for noticing the subs were up, slipped past 10k the other day. Got a few from Leos channel and I hope to keep a few of them long term:-)

You should have no problem with that. Quality contributors on YT like you are the reason I haven’t watched network tv in over a decade. I’ve tried documenting my work, I just don’t have the time or patience to execute it. Thus my abysmal channel.

@@nicksrestos8505 Oh I'm with you on the network tv thing, there's just too much good youtube to watch. I always seem to end up on videos shot on the west coast of BC. Also fwiw, trying to shoot and make a video out of closeup or confined space footage is about the most frustrating thing to do. You can't film re-dos and its super easy to move out of the shot and miss everything. moving a camera around on a construction site is so easy even a framer could do it:-)

A professional at work and you sure make it look easy. Some artistic touches that are entertaining, especially you, or maybe the music, is in sync with you as you use the staple gun. The engineering that has gone into this house is amazing. I am an engineer, sort of, and I don't think I have missed much. But I guess they owners want to get through the 'big one' without a cracked window.

I agree, i've worked on houses over the years that bounced and swayed right up to the last piece of roof sheeting going on and still left you skeptical but this one. I'm pretty amazed by it.

Hello Jake , very good videos. I really like watching them because they almost always last an hour or more and we can appreciate what the construction is progressing. I am going to buy a Dewalt table saw and I would like to hnow where I can buy stand that you have mounted the table saw on .

Thanks for that, and i'm happy to help. Here is a link to the manufacturer; rousseauco.com/product-category/table-saw-stands/ My advice would be to buy two or three outfeed tables because you can put two on the back and one on the front to help with infeed if you have delicate/expensive material. Its always super handy to have onsite whenever you need to make a bunch of rips for your roof or walls. one thing I might mention is that I replace the factory tops with MDO or HDO plywood because it lasts longer and is lighter than the MDF that it comes with. Especially in the rain that I have here:-)

Mi permetto di chiederti perché in vece che usare il legno per i solai non hai utilizzato il cemento armato e per le tramezzature interne non hai utilizzato il cartongesso. Il vantaggio sarebbe, maggiore resistenza dei solai hai pesi e soprattutto il cartongesso ha maggiore resistenza contro il fuoco . Comunque complimenti, la casa sembra molto bella. Ti seguirò con molta attenzione fino alla fine .

Apprezzo che tu stia al passo con la serie! Dato che sono solo il corniciaio, farei solo supposizioni riguardo ai pavimenti, ma posso dire che quel tipo di costruzione nelle case residenziali in questa zona è raro e suppongo che le preoccupazioni sui costi siano il motivo per cui hanno scelto questo metodo più comune. Per quanto riguarda i muri, ovviamente quando sarà il momento saranno tutti rivestiti a secco con cartongesso. Ci sono alcune pareti interne che hanno del compensato ma questo è per scopi ingegneristici e resistenza strutturale in alcune aree.

I ground it off on the belt grinder, there's a hard plastic plug in the end and I was worried the rubber would delaminate as soon as I started in but it's pretty well made and I think it will last quite a while.

Sure. The style of crane is called a 'self erecting tower crane' it is a counterweighted crane unlike the more common counterbalanced style that are typically seen. It's also known as a 'fast erect' depending on where in the world you are. The brand is Benedini but there are probably a solid 7 or 8 other major brands that have units all around the world. Whereas I can do an incredible amount of work with my forklifts there are somethings that would be completely impossible without the crane.

Yeah, it’s all done with sloped polyiso to internal drains with overflows. The two low areas are green roofs and one of them has a small terrace as well.
