I think the curve of mana values puts 2 mana as the highest concentration of spells. Ajani, Frog, 90% of Storm, Bowmaster, Counterspell, Raptor, Kavu, Goryo. It hits a lot.

Spell Snare is that good in Modern right now, I run three in my FrogTide.

Yeah Modern in general is a spell snare format again now, it's one of the only cards that can meaningfully answer Boros Energy on the draw. Spell snaring ajani or raptor is the only way to not get 2-for-1'd.

it's funny you saying old when the cards you point at aren't all that old. To me anything Dominaria onwards are new and recent cards. Old magic to me is alpha to Scars of Mirrodin. Mirrodin to Ixalan was a glorious time to play MTG.
