I feel like modern longboarding looks like they are riding a shortboard, it doesn't often have the same simple moves and graceful style.

+Tom ... I feel the same way, but Modern Longboarding includes so many cool people riding different boards, in the absence of a jury I felt it was worth beginning. I fully appreciate traditional longboarding and its criteria, and would be honoured to shoot more great exponents, but I also think it would be silly to ignore the many classic moments the non-trad folks have to offer. Relatively few people can ride a traditional longboard the way the purists would like (do the purists?). Thanks for the comment.

Kelp. A crucial part of the ecology but a pain in the ass for surfers, as it's not like Cali Kelp... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ecklonia_maxima.

Cool video, I understand the critique of modern longboarding just mimicking shortboarding. But I must say, I am a fan of them shredding, big turns etc... then moving in to hanging 5, 10. It just has the best aspects of board styles of surfing, and looks like so much fun. Love my log.

Thanks Mr Espey! DVD will come out when I get a camera setup and finish shooting. Much has changed since I started shooting. Not so much happening longboard-wise as far as I can see, but then being a surf-hermit I don't know much right now.

I got tired of riding longboards-noise riding and gently gliding up and down the face. Destroying a lip with a short or long board still immensely gratifying and quite difficult on a longboard so do not short sell these great athletes.
