Thank you for being open about your relationship with your dogs & your approaches. I've watched other KZbin trainers and they have been immensely helpful to me. But none include that personal element of the relationship with their dogs that you do. That element makes all the difference.

Oh my God! I'm a woman with high functioning autism I got a late diagnosis, I'm also obsessed with my dogs! My whole life I've been with and worked with dogs. And people came to me for help years ago and now I work with people but I get burnt out a lot, but when you said Autistic it made me SO HAPPY. Literal goosebumps. I didn't know. But it makes so much sense now. It makes me a good dog trainer and behaviorist as well... Please talk about it more. You're such an inspration to me and I'd love to know how you keep a balance... lots of love from the Netherlands

Hi Matt and Annie. I had run across your shorts and thought the content covered was spot on. I have only begun watching some videos , and tonight ran across the 1st podcast that was done 3 months ago. I’ll have to subscribe to them so I’m notified. I really appreciate the openness and your communication with each other (the dogs as well). Very humble and that , to me sets you apart from some of these other trainers I’ve seen. Keep up the excellent work and keeping it real is what it’s all about. Thank you two for that. I am a trainer of pet dogs and at the moment training my 9 month old McNab. She’s training in flyball, pullers and barn hunt. She’s high drive and I’m now switching her commands into French, Dutch (I have Dutch friends helping me with the pronunciation) English. She caught on so fast I’m now getting better results at how quick she responds. You mixing it up as well seems to have a more interesting twist to it. Anyway, I am happy to have run across our videos and now podcast. I have yet to check out TikTok or instagram. PS. I am So Pleased you’re not some bragger. Keep posting. You’ve got awesome dogs and an awesome decoy.

Welcome to the 'tism club! I also learned so late that I had it and it made a lot of things make a lot of sense. Take all the time and breaks you need - you're absolutely rocking it and your method of training has been wonderfully helpful even in the little snippets I see in your videos. I'm getting my first mal in a few months and will be training them for PSA. hoping to be able to get to the point you have your dogs at. Looking forward to more podcasts, this was great

Absolute legend!!! Well said. From someone who suffers burnout from wearing a mask. I completely understand what you mean, but still being able to train Malinowski with that drive while burnt out makes you a superb! Keep up the awesome job. Wasn’t awkward at all!

Matt, I feel very fortunate to have found your site. I am I n search of knowledge from top trainers all the time. My current mentor, unfortunately lives in Switzerland. Long distance training. You mentioned you are always looking for extra knowledge. Rene Sagarra is ahead of his time in training without ecollars and prong collars. I can't seem to get this position across here. Everyone owns ecollars. Rene finished #3 in the Mondio world Championships and also used his dog in security. Extreme advanced work with no ecollar. Someday soon these tools may be outlawed here as in several European countries. Look him up.

This was absolutely perfect. I learn so much from you. E-collars are banned in Australia so I will have to put in the extra work. 👍

I’m so glad I watched this video 😂, I’ve been sitting here watching these videos like man are these force free only trainers right? Am I just horrible at this? His dogs are better than mine and he doesn’t ever use any aversion? Big deep breath I guess.

I've been following Zak Gorge for years now. I absolutely love his science and history to show how positive reinforcement is the absolute best way to go with dogs. I'm glad that you guys also know that positive training is best and that you are willing to keep growing to improve your training style!! I had a dog that was high energy and extremely smart. The ten years I had him I never stopped educating myself on healthy dog training methods. My pup was such a smart great dog, so many people would tell me he was the most behaved pup they knew. I can't wait to get my next pup and I'm so glad I found this channel to help me improve even more on my raise a dogo. Thank you for being here and thank you so much for being honest.

Interesting! When dealing with reactivity and aggression, one correction is usually enough, but once the dog makes the better decision you jackpot reward your dog. E-collar should be licensed like a gun to prevent misuse. Its good to use in some cases but should never be used to "light the dog up". Have you tried a vibrating collar? would be nice to see a comparison between the e-collar and vibration collar. keep it up!

how did you get started with dog training? I really wanna become a highly skilled trainer but sometimes I get stuck on certain commands and exercises
@aloha1005 Жыл бұрын
Matt, when you say that you worked your dog to out the ball and give it immediately, without them biting of their own, how do you do that? Can you ahow this process over time maybe? This would greatly helpt. Also, what about leash training (pulling) and reactivity tonother dogs whule walking your dog ? My dog is a shiba inu, 7 1/2 months. I am using strainght collar and treats to have him walk reasonnBly close to me. However he tends to lead and walk about a feet or two ahead. How did your train your mals to heals so beautifully?

There is nothing wrong with adverse training methods s long as they’re not abused. Balanced is always best.
@harleysauceda5401 Жыл бұрын
Just a thought, but maybe you could try to condition the out to be a higher value by always using lunch meat or chicken or something rather than just kibble after. I'm not sure how well phasing that out and keeping the value would work, and also, if the value is entirely the bitework itself it isnt likely to work, but it's better to try to transfer some value than wait for an answer! (If you haven't already of course) Also, I'm really glad you talked about burnout in the context of being Autistic as many don't realize that can be a huge issue with it, and especially that you can often do what you love still but not anything else or not specific things when that happens, which allistics find so odd or makes them think your faking which hurts so much.
@nerdkidleo2 жыл бұрын
I have such a hard time with the out too. please do video about it.

I'm a first time owner of a japanese sptiz. Far from a Malinois ofc. But can definitely say I'm not skilled. Have had to resort to no, sometimes yelling out of frustration (doesn't work, so it wasn't even effective) etc. Reverse timeout, suppose that's a punishment. Just ye... I really wanna be a good companion for my dog, I want him to be a curious happy dog, and I want him to be a well mannered dog. (And he has a good sweet nature so far, but lord the biting.. 6 months old now and still not really learned to stop biting.) I just hope I don't mess the dog up. I still worry I messed up our bond early on cause of the frustration when he was biting. I'm not very tolerant of pain to begin with, and had no idea how bad the puppy biting actually is. I try to be kind, patient, consistent. And he does very well on many things. Teenager coming up, so we'll see if we get through it without anyone getting damaged. But the lack of experience and skill worries me. I don't want to go the punishment route, but I'm not skilled enough to train the correct way either. Now, he's not supposed to be a working dog biting people etc, so perhaps that's fine, that he's not gonna be perfectly trained. But still... Wish me luck folks.

Shouldn't have got a dog like that then its not fair on the dog
@mirawenya4 ай бұрын
@@becky2235 the dog turned out great. :) he’s now little over 2 years old and is an absolute sweetheart. The biting died down with a bit of time with me just always walking away if he got too rough. He’s well mannered, loves nosework, and mostly naps all day. Very calm as an adult. But always ready for fun days like our nosework class etc.
