I heard that this train was cancelled due to the economic crisis in Greece. Now a bus, plane or driving are the only options. I did the train trip overnight in 2008 and it had very sparse ridership. Interesting experience.

That's bad. The buggers who did this were killing the Greek Economy by this act. Greece should have stuck to the Drachma to avoid the predation of Germany's criminal Elite. Turkey needs to steer clear of the Eurozone.

Since 2014, a lot of the trains from Greece are running again. In summer season: Daily day train Thessaloniki - Sofia, weekly night train Thessaloniki - Bucharest (!) and daily: night train Thessaloniki -> Belgrad. The one straight to Thessaloniki is cancelled however.

Hi, These are just normal Siemens Desiros, a Siemens standard class which can be found in many European countries and the US. ÖBB has the two-part diesel version, this is a 5-part electric version. The trams were built by Bombardier. Greetings, Roni

Ach ja - wo man auch hinkommt: Bombardier-Standardstraßenbahnen, Standardeisenbahnen... wie schön war es früher, als man in anderen Ländern auch andere Fahrzeuge sah! Und das griechische Eisenbahnsammelsurium war sowieso immer schon legendär. Ist die Museumsstraßenbahn zufällig ein Gotha-Wagen?
