Fall in Greece 2: Pure ALCO Sound, November 6 - 8 2008

Greek OSE class A-201 (ALCO RS8 (DL532B)), A-451 (MLW MX-627) and A-501 (MLW MX-636) diesels around Thessaloniki. Running on the triangle in Skydra after having brought a local freight with gravel cars, on a northbound mainline freight at Neo Pori and a lot of shunting action with several classes at Thessaloniki yard.

The video is beautiful and the settlements adjacent to the rail road are also beautiful. The rail road crossings, the shunting yard, signals, etc. are pretty much similar to what we have in India. I enjoyed this 10 minutes video. Thanks

Hi, Greece has a meter gauge network on the Peleponnes peninsula in the south and also ALCO classes for that (looking like a smaller WDM2), but these shown here are all standard gauge models. Greetings, Roni

Aural bliss, I miss that sound. Being from Western NY, I can still get a fix of that audio from a few short lines around but not often. The Apache railway in Arizone is nice Alco haven.

Dos três modelo de locomotivas ALCO que aparecem no vídeo, temos dois modelos idênticos no Brasil, salvo pequenos detalhes externos que são comuns entre um país e outro: a locomotiva prefixo A-205 do vídeo (no Brasil é chamada de ALCO modelo RS-8) e as locomotivas A-507 e A-510 do vídeo (no Brasil é chamada de "ALCO" modelo MX-620 - está entre aspas porque as daqui do Brasil foram construídas pela firma EMAQ, sob licença da firma Bombardier, detentora na época da tecnologia ALCO).

A.205 (DL532B) very similar to the Australian DL531 series ALCO (1959-1970 build), known as our 48 class in NSW and 830 class in SA, many are still in operation today, see my KZbin site.

Hey Ronik24. Gr8 video that one. I see that diesel railways (at least goods trains) in Greece are a lot similar to that in India. The locos seem to be smaller versions of WDM2s/WDM3s/WDG3s...etc as all these are variants of pure alcos. Some others in India like WDM3-C/D, WDP4, WDG4 are EMDs similar to US diesel locos by GM. India has a wide gauge which is bit redundant, but conversion to standard gauge has a lot of economy crushing overhead. In addition to these India has wide variety of locos.
