Maybe change is coming given Nintendo’s change since the Mario movie. Despite the tone deafening, Pokemon Company higher ups must KNOW that they have to keep up with Nintendo’s pace in terms of how they display games to their audience. And I don’t know if it would be necessary, but Nintendo could end up buying more shares in order to step in on Game Freak’s game development cycle. If they are adamant on being a bigger entertainment company with games as their main pillar, then Pokemon HAS to be able to be on par with that quality or close to it. Pokemon in many ways is an Nintendo IP, it should just as good as a quality IP. I don’t know, it’s a gut feeling. If you’re interested, I can offer my opinion on what they can do to start.
@Brianycus11 ай бұрын
Shoot your opinion. Thats what's the comments are for. Also it helps for the video's longevity so more people can watch too haha
@demetriusnp4911 ай бұрын
@@Brianycus One thing would be is to deconstruct their formula regarding their release table of content. Address the strengths and weaknesses of each pillar to figure out a solution. For the games, rebuild Game Freak as at Premium A Team for the main game. Give them the people, budget and resources to carefully craft the next generation game. And then for side games construct smaller yet still big B Team groups that can bounce off ideas and work well together. One team can work on Mystery Dungeon, another on a game like Pokemon Snap, Pokemon Colosseum, Pokken and more. And for a C Team they can be in charge of mobile titles like Pokemon Go and Unite but are overseen by management to make sure they’re functional and getting content. That’s for the games, they don’t have to co-side with merch or the anime. And these two things can take time to develop too so when it comes time to do this new release schedule, they can meet the demand. That’s one of the issues is at times they can’t meet demand, and that’s valid considering this IP has a massive base. So making things in bulk at the ready can help. Once all of that is in place and they work with Nintendo’s gaming platform schedule, that’s when they can roll out the content that generates a more compelling brand cohesion. It may not gain immediate money, but in the long run the profits will surge for not just the company but the investors too. I’m not sure how this would affect the long run, but it would be a good start. I agree that they should focus more on the game quality, since video games are the biggest entertainment industry. And that’s not to say Pokemon Company is completely tone deaf, they DO care about their audience to an extent. But they need to do a better job, just better management is all we’re asking.

I have a very tough time seeing why so many creators make this argument of an obvious decline happening for Pokémon, when everything Pokémon puts out is only selling more, reaching more people, etc. Feels like a "vibe" that isn't backed up by much.
@Brianycus11 ай бұрын
The thing is when you expand on something without expanding your resources, you end up sacrificing things. Pokemon has been proven to be a multi million dollar company, and you would imply they would be sharing that to the games. They are not. And it shows. So they need to start investing in the game that always makes them money and focus less on the casualization of the franchise. Be more like Persona basically.

Sales doesn't mean anything when they're intentionally marketing games like SwSh/SV as if they're far more "Free" and innovative than they actually are. I guarantee you Scarlet and Violet wouldnt have sold half as many if the severe bugs and performance issues were known before hand.
@reeseseater1211 ай бұрын
I agree with so much here. I do think that if Scarlet and Violet had voice acting and just performed properly (could've had exact same graphics but a steady 30 fps minimum) it would've rated in the high 80's or maybe even low 90's because it was legitimately the most fun I had with a mainline game. (and Arceus was such a breath of fresh air, first time in a long time I felt compelled to complete the Dex) I also agree, attack animations that show the Pokemon actually attacking rather than just teeth show up around the opponent would make it seem like a much more engaging fight. A story that is, doesn't even have to be some compelling epic but just worth going through. That was a huge improvement Scar/Vio had over Swo/Shi imo. They definitely got to improve the quality of their environments too. (I do like there being multiple rivals now; Nemona was a great rival, I like that architype. I do miss the asshole rival, would love to get that back. The one architype I really don't care for is the cheerleader rival, don't do that again. However there are a few more things they could add that would really put it over the top imo (with the previously discussed ones you brought up). First if they continue with the open world design (which I like) they need to level scale trainers, at least the gym leaders/"bosses" because no one wants to encounter a gym leader when you're 20 levels higher. (this is big) How they didn't do that is beyond me. Second, I would like to see something akin to the vs seeker back, just being able to rematch trainers would be fun, especially if their teams improve upon rematches. (not as big but helps if you want to train other Pokemon) Third, a difficulty option when you start the game. I hate the "the player can make the game as easy or difficult as they like by choosing what Pokemon to use." I don't think it should be on the player to sacrifice Pokemon they like for a challenge or sacrifice a challenge to use Pokemon they like. I don't think that having a difficulty option would be difficult or take away from the experience. (For Pokemon, it would really just be adjusting natures, EV/IV, move pools and held items of trainer's Pokemon, at least "bosses") If they did all of those things I think we'd be looking at, by far, the best Pokemon game ever

6:06 That's what I'm saying! They have more money than Activision, who regularly has many of their studios work in CoD to ensure a presentable product by the end of the year. So why can't Pokémon do the same? It's literal pocket change they'll be spending, which'll be paid back in insanely greater amounts.
@Jdoesstuff11 ай бұрын
For me, the thing that ruined Pokemon for me was them cutting which Pokemon you can transfer to the latest games. i.e the National Dex. The thing that sets Pokemon apart from every other rpg is the massive customization aspect. Being able to make whatever kind of team you want. Removing more than half of those options severely hurts that customization aspect. I'm not even getting SV yet until they add my favorite mon in.
@tlst9410 ай бұрын
What was your reaction to the OG dexit within Gen 3? As it wasn't compatible with Gens 1-2. Due to it being a reboot. So older mons couldn't be transferred.
@Jdoesstuff10 ай бұрын
@@tlst94 I can't answer my initial reaction because I didn't play the games back then. But looking at it now, while you couldn't transfer mons from Gens 1 and 2, all of the older Pokemon were still coded into games like RSE and FrLg. So it wasn't like there was no way to use a specific past mon in those games. As opposed to Gens 8 and 9 now where there is no practical way to use a certain mon that isn't obtainable, as they aren't even coded in those games.
@Jdoesstuff10 ай бұрын
@@lithosagymfan I am SO sick of these excuses/justifications for the Dex cut... "It forces people to use different Pokemon" Pokemon is a game about customization, choice and literally playing however you want. If I want to go around playing the games with the same mons I raised from the ground up, I should have every right to do so. It's no different from others doing shiny hunts or nuzlockes. "Series like Digimon/Monster Hunter/etc don't have every character in every installment" The key differences are A. Series like Digimon never made it an expectation to have and bring over every single mon to each new installment. B. Pokemon isn't just another monster collecting game, Pokemon is THE monster collecting game. Pokemon is way big enough to where they can almost do whatever they want, yet they choose to keep cutting corners. C. Pokemon has already had every past mon available for transfer from Gens 3 to 7. And that was for underpowered handheld systems. There is literally no excuse as to why an HD console game can't hold 1,000 characters when the 3DS could hold 700+.

I think you and many other critics of Pokémon miss one fundamental aspect of the franchise when it comes to what **you** want from the series: Pokémon never sold itself as being the highest quality RPG series or being something as deep as SMT, Trails, Dragon Quest or Final Fantasy. It was always on the handheld until the Switch, and Game Freak made games proportional to the hardware and the lack of developing large games did bit them in the ass later on, but you treat them like they're supposed to be making high quality games that they can't realistically do. And another thing: stop making the argument that they're the highest grossing franchise when we've seen time and time again that more money ≠ higher quality, nor does more developers on hand equal a better game. You and others think that throwing money around will fix problems when it'll only exacerbate them. I agree that they need more time, even if SV had 3 years of development and could've looked better, but to call them lazy and impassioned is very disrespectful. I'm glad you weren't rambling about nonsense this time around, but you're still overexaggerating the problems of the series like others continue to do, and I wish you guys got better material because at this point you're just copy and pasting every time you make videos on this. Wait until February before you make your concerns heard.
@Brianycus11 ай бұрын
I never said they were lazy, but that they have had opportunities to invest more into the games. More money means bigger budget and also means more staff to help develop the games but also make sure these games also take time. Another thing is that you just proved a point: Pokemon ISN'T in the handheld setting any more. It's now part of the console arena and so they shouldn't be making these games the way they made them, even if it plays well. Look at Xenoblade. Pokemon needs to step it up in gameplay and really be a game that is rated E for everyone - it had what everyone wanted for the franchise

I couldn't imagine Pokemon fans villainizing OTHER fans who can see past the mascot and see the decline and the appropriate criticism. At the end of the day, the base of the new games are great, but they're rushed games and there's nothing wrong with admitting that. We all deserve a better product. The opinions of the outspoken matter.
@UncannyEXP11 ай бұрын
@Brianycus Again, more money isn't gonna result in an immediate increase in quality. Games like CoD and Assassin's Creed have high budgets but more often than not turn out worse year after year. And the issue with appealing to everyone is that it'll end up appealing to no one. The fanbase is so wide and varied in opinions that what will work for some people won't work for others, so it's best to try and make a game that'll stay true to Pokémon's roots and be judged based off that.

2D Pokémon games tend to have plenty of content, look better, and play fine. Even the characters can be cel-shaded in a similar Kirby's Return to Dreamland DX way. I even support sex-dimorphic character designs to justify the boy or girl option, anime graphics to make the characters appealing to look at, Gym Leader listings, field effects from Abilities, overworld Pokémon with a separate battlefield, Loto-ID, rematches, reusable TMs and one-use TRs and HMs, Exp. Share option, event key items, and requiring to complete the Regional PokéDex with the National PokéDex only being a nice extra.

As a diehard pokemon fan who grew up with the games too, the last two main series games have been way way better than the 3DS ones Yea, sword shield was disappointing. Barren of exploration, challenge, boring gimmick (dynamax) As was sunmoon (cutscene hell) XY (too easy) Same with lets be I pikachu, which was stripped of so many features I had lost hope for the series was bordering on But I didnt feel this way at all the last three games. Pokemon scarlet violet has everything that I remember growing up on DS and GBA. It had freedom, had some level of difficulty, and some type of interesting lore/story Same with legends arceus. Absolute breath of fresh air compared to recent games Even BDSP feels overhated to me. It fixed Three of diamond pearls worst issues (painfully slow engine, pokemon selection, HMs everywhere) Yeah, the visuals were disappointing, but im playing on a nintendo switch in the first place as opposed to a series x/ps5/pc. Imo, if i want Pokemon to improve themselves, here's the first thing, they should stop doing Open World maps, cus it's literally overrated at this point, I would rather prefer small areas which are full of contents. Second, more gameplay content, contents which will keep players interested like add Battle Facilities, contest shows, Pokemon mounts and rides, mini games and Pokemon interactive activities, exploring areas and getting rare pokemon's, but mostly Battle facilities cus I love the Pokemon variety each trainer has. And third, story, ok its alright if the story is generic but try to make the story sensible , but imo, it would be better if story went into the mature spectrum, not like dark edgy things, not like that just serious like loss, struggles, friendships those stuff. Unfortunately, we may not see the light of the day for now. And also, they should add post content areas if possible, not necessary but would be nice.I'm going to stop writing here now cus i'm babbling too much at this rate.
