There are some beginner baiting concepts I didn't mention, they're mentioned in the tutorials of the two youtube channel's below:
StabbyStabby - / @stabbyvideo
Slurgi - / @tf2slurgi
You can use this tutorial to analyse spy trickstab clips of any time period (you have to watch slurgi's and stabbystabby's old tutorials for some skipped baiting theory) and understand how they achieved it, even if the player himself didnt how he got the stab either.

Damn, i thought its going to be some Mr.Paladin's Trickstab Tutorial and how i was wrong... I like it a lot, since you actually show us HOW to practice the movement and what we should take into consideration when going for it. It's definitely not for beginners, but as a guy with Trickstab mindset(i know Lots about hitboxes and types of stabs, but never able to get the situation for such stabs or die early), I've enjoyed it.

Very informative video that ties pretty hard to the game sense part of spy that is built on game sense and experimentation through working out the rhythm. one thing i did like to add is the unsynced section is another way to create much more actual tricks to ur opponent due to the fact that most flow state rhythmic patterns in movement has to have a element of surprise and desyncing your own rhythm tricks the actual opponent with higher level game sense.
@lieuty
@lieuty 28 күн бұрын
ye, im planning on making a part 2 of this video covering when you should go off beat for the rhythm and more, one part of this video i talked about how you have to make the second last strafe longer than usual if someone has high reaction rhythm, this is because the enemy is underflicking when trying to track you after you switched your strafe, if you make a longer strafe to the side you force them to overflick you, but you have to skip a beat in the rhythm for that
@lieuty
@lieuty 28 күн бұрын
another big aspect of rhythm i didn't mention is that you want to move at a rhythm because you want to be predictable, when you want to predict your enemy as a spy you have to be predictable yourself before you do the unpredictable, if your movement is unpredictable even to yourself, the actions of the enemy are going to be unpredictable to you aswell
@TheoreticalSpy
@TheoreticalSpy 27 күн бұрын
@lieuty another big factor I found is strafes force the rhythms of their angle switches in most cases to the stab. Developmenting the switch between an unsync and synced patterns of movements is how I came to understand how stabs are done ad well. Probably one thing to cover as well is playing with distances considering the lower to short ranges can trip up the opponents if done in unique ways as listed before with syncing the rhythm.

Might or might not make a video in the future reviewing your clips using this theory, send the clips to lieutylew@gmail.com and title it SPY THEORY, add CRD if it's a crd clip, CHAIN if it's a chain (4+ people) TRIPLE if it's three people you trickstabbed, DOUBLE if it's two people you trickstabbed, SINGLE if it's one person you trickstabbed, if you trickstabbed no one then you add FAIL to it, lets say you you get three people (not happening) and you're a circlestrafer or trying to learn it (don't) then you make the title SPY THEORY CRD TRIPLE, if you fail a trickstab then you make the title SPY THEORY FAIL if you trickstab 5 people and you're not a crd spy, then you add SPY THEORY CHAIN and so on. part 2 is in the works, ill be covering those movement patterns more in depth, all the movement patterns except async are based on the enemy tracking you while holding one of their movement keys, if the enemy hold w while tracking you, they're going after you, if the enemy holds s while tracking they're going away from you, if the enemy is not moving and youre holding one of the strafe keys, then you always go around them, if the enemy is strafing in one direction, then if you strafe in the same direction while tracking them then you're going along (for the most part), if you're strafing in the opposite direction when tracking them then you're always strafing around the enemy. There will be more things in the tutorial than this tho

@@ToM-ee2lnThat’s the flaw with CRD’s theory. You can “matador” strafing players because they always have to move their mouse to aim at you or adjust their strafing. By timing your movement to their rhythm and utilizing effective baits and headfakes, you can either intercept their strafe or close the distance to force their adjustments to be more drastic which opens them up to matador like stabs. In other cases, you’re doing headfakes and baiting to set up a backpedal stab of some sort. There’s only one movement pattern that’s not accounted for, which is players who literally don’t move their mouse at all and try to lock you into a deadlocked strafe. But we have the deadlock stab for that reason.

I don't agree that this is how player movement works, and think that this may be confusing and detrimental to new players. HOWEVER you do have my respect for being passionate about learning movement! This doesn't cover the best players you might encounter and I think that many of the concepts you propose exist and have other names; like head faking is essentially the strafe and snap, along being level 1, and around essentially being level 4. I think if you re going to use a system to try to categorize players based on movement circle strafing is more encompassing and provides more answers. BUT I love to see that more spies are open to trying to understand how movement works! 😄

But a good player will always know when to stop tracking your movement so you won't be able to trickstab, they can also keep their distance in melee range, and if the spy is noob enough, they attempt to corner or stair stab while the good player is just waiting for them to come back and hit them lol Also 1:00 shows how broken the backstab system is. Lag compensation would make it less of a problem if the backstab angle was reduced (so it can actually be on the back instead of almost 90 degrees). As someone with 10k hours, I haven't had a problem with trickstabbers many years ago since i learnt how to deal with them, the only times i fall for it now is when i think they don't know how to trickstab, and once i know they do then i apply these ideas and they always resort to using revolvers (Spy being the weakest class in the game for a gun fight). The best Spy will always be the ones who don't trickstab and pick the perfect moments to backstab, that's why the cloak & dagger is a good choice because it allows you to uncloak whenever you want to go for it.

reduce the backstab angle and you're going to destroy spy, even nowadays players have a hard time backstabbing players sometimes when they're moving weird on their end. Also if I played against you i would just go for your teammates if you didnt chase me down, so i would bait you that way unless you let your teammates die :DDD

@@lieutyi think moving weird is supposed to be a counter to getting backstabbed. Do you think you should just be able to backstab anyone at any time? I don’t think the hit box is an issue though. It’s mostly the fact that the kunai allows you to farm unaware/new/not trying players and use that to consistently take fights with the rest of the team with so much health that you have the time to get close and abuse latency. I saw a lot of times you would have died before getting the trick stab if you didn’t start at 200+ health.

@@lieutyI don’t blame the skillful spies for doing this though - I get why you wouldn’t want to take risks and play sneaky if you don’t have to. Good video though and clearly you’re very good at the game and you would be one of the spies who would still be able to trick stab a lot of players without relying on kunai buffs and lag compensation - just they allow it to be done more aggressively than I think is reasonable

@@drjello777 tnx for the compliments but how i see it is that i can go soldier, scout or demo and destroy an entire pub way easier than let's say kunai spy with dr, i became a spy main mainly because i love playing in a way where its a one trick pony type of playstyle that is high risk high reward. Soldier also has the blackbox and conch combo, demo can sticky spam, scout has mad milk and bonk, sniper can kill alot of people quickly if he's good enough and so on. The main reason people hate the kunai is because it's popular and people found some potential on it after a great deal of time on the game, the current iteration of the kunai was out for like 9 years, players started complaining about the kunai a few years ago after people started using it in frags and only play with it. If the kunai is going to get nerfed, people will play with the yer or the big earner, hone it and find some new potential on it, and people will want to nerf it like the kunai. One last thing, the massive killstreaks i sometimes get with the kunai take a long time to get, this is every few days of constant gameplay so it does not happen often

That's what every spy frag is, Klown, widely regarded as on of the best knifespies, and regarded as that by me from all I've seen, also gets his insane trickstab chains on bad players. And this is, as you correctly pointed out, because good players can't get trick stabbed almost by definition, most of the time. For some reason nobody mentions this, but you can counter literally any trickstab by pressing the "S" button on your keyboard. If you get trick stabbed often, it means you are bad at meleeing (A skill most players suck at). Spy is a unique class in that it requires high skill to even pull of impressive stuff on noobs, most people can't do what Klown does on bots, so when it is done on a good player, it is even more impressive. The backstab system is not broken. I have about 1400 hours on spy and I can confidently tell you that the times you get screwed out of a simple backstab on your end heavly heavily outweighs the times your enemy got a facestab on their end. And this is something that can't be solved due to how networking works. Maybe some networking wizard can make it a bit better but you can't get around the problem of not having equal ping, priority, bandwidth etc. as your opponent. Reducing the backstab angle is not needed and it would kill spy as a class. Once again, if you have issues with it to the point of wanting to reduce the back "hitbox" (which is exactly at the back since it's 50% of the player hitbox opposite of the head) you either have bad internet or are bad at meleeing, which with 10k hours I doubt you are. I heavily disagree with your conclusion. The best spy is one who performs best. If a spy gets 30 kills while being aggressive he's objectively better in that match than another spy who waits around patiently, maybe dies less and gets 15 kills, and in casual, there are no class priorities or important picks since everyone is generally equally incompetent. Me and Luv agree on this and I've even told him that I appreciate his Steam profile at the time including a sentence on about how trickstabing is an essential skill for any good spy.

To anyone saying "hurr durr CRD" in the comments, his circle strafing system is: a) a giant waste of time and b) largely arbitrary and made up The only two useful bits of information he disclosed in his videos is the existence of a C2C cornerstab type and the circle strafe trickstab. Anything beyond that is something you'll learn through playing and has no business being 5 hours long. And don't even get me started on the made up stabs. "Level 2 stab" where the entire stab is if scouts mash ad ad as they do, you get behind them. That as well as any other of the level over 9000 stabs are not special stabs, they are LARPing.
