Dave, I am a big fan of yours here in Brazil. I love your videos, I always learn a lot from them. Congratulations on videos. In country hunting is prohibited, but still we always find a way to have a good hunt. A hug.

Nice video, Dave. I have learned a lot from this. I don't have any experience with this kind of trapping. Where I live we're not allowed to use foothold traps. It's a big problem. Pine marten and red foxes have devastated the population of ptarmigan, capercaillie and black grouse. With this method we'd take out a lot more foxes than we do. When I set my marten traps I use feathers as lure.Caught 3 marten in my first 3 traps the first week of last years season by using feathers and honey.

I really like these videos on trapping. I had NO knowledge of trapping prior to watching. Now i have enough to get me in trouble lol. Thanks awesome video.

I like seeing all of these forms of visual attractant. I heard of people using everything from shot up squirrel hides to partridge feathers to cd's to attract animals. Visual lure can be almost as important as smelling lure.

@Jeff, Plants are prob the first food cuz they are everywhere but it depends on the time of the year. Fankly I would not choose just one. First take care of the rules of three. Then scout for small game and set traps. Put out several fishing lines if water is around. Only after I set up camp and traps and fishing lines do I hunt. Thats me but it all depends on the situation.

I have seen another type of earth anchor that has two attachment spots. One for the trap, just like the anchors your using and another on the end to prevent the toggle action for a easier removal. They cost a few dollars more, (per dozen, they have a higher hold capability for softer soil) but I would think NOT having to carry the extra weight of a large crowbar when you're hopping to be carrying meat home would be worth it.

NICE VIDS, I m new to trapping but do you have to pull those earth anchors up to set them after u drive them in. I have the berkshire and I think u have to pull up to set them. Let us know how those type anchors work. Prob take a truck to get em out of the ground, they look heafty!!! Good luck, keep vids comin

I know this is a mock set..but just giving you some pointers. First you Really shouldn't be blowing on your set to find your pan, use a small stick. Your pan tension should be heavy enough so it wont trip. Your blowing a lot of scent to your trap. Also don't put your lure bottles in your sifter! They smell and will contaminate your dirt. And lastly your pan is way to close to your attractant. When a coyote sniffs it they're legs are 9 inches back or so, not right next to it. I hope this helps!

I've stopped trapping for a few years now but I remember the last visual site that I made no trap was set 'cause I was out. I had found an old coyote skull and I put it 20 yards from the tree line in the farmers field and sprayed/misted it with red fox urine just to see how the coyotes would react. I redid that skull every day for 4 days and yes each day that spot and skull had been torn up. When I did get a trap there I had no takers

In your opinion (Dave) what is better for most of trapping a long spring, double coil, or double long spring. You may have said this in one of your other videos but i don't remember, and you have been using the coil a lot in your other videos and i was just wondering.

Lately i have been using your technique for setting spring traps but how do you feel about putting bait (specifically rabbit guts) under the trap? Now it has been working for me lately but I have a nuisance badger that has been digging around the traps and rendering them ineffective. Do you have any advice on neutralizing the badger or making it not possible for him to effect my traps.

Dave, quick question. out of all your survival food sources (hunting, trapping, fishing, etc.), which do you think is the most efficient. In other words, if you were on the verge of starvation, which one would bring you the most food in the shortest amount of time? obviously, trapping takes more time, but just in terms of how much benefit you reap as compared to how much effort you put into it.

All I could think of is the many times that I've been hiking in the woods and found an old bone on the side of the trail. I might not stop and investigate any more for fear of putting my foot, knee or hand in the wrong spot.

Are you leaving these traps set and catching things? If so, can you do a video on dispatching a catch? I know a lot of people don't like seeing that kind of thing, but it's part of trapping and hunting...

What do you do with the remains after you skin the coyote? I assume you are trapping them for their fur. When I was a kid we used to get $5 a head for every coyote we turned into Fish and Wildlife because they are considered nuisance predators. There is still a kill on sight on coyotes here, but since I moved to the suburbs I rarely see them when I'm out on family land. I do see sign, but I'm not out there enough to set traps and be able to check them.

Guy's who cares about the smoke! I am more interested in the smoke from between Dave's ears! Lol lets keep to the subject. It's s@!t like the off topic commits that pisses Dave off. I have seen him pull videos for stuff like that. I for one want to see more a lot more. Dave there are lots of us who want to see this and will keep our focus on the subject at hand.

wouldn't it be easier and more affective to just take a dead rabbit or squirrel tie it down and put your trap near it? I would think real bait would be a simple way to get a coyote. Do raccoons, possums, or any other animals in your area that would be able to set off your trap eat a dead rabbit or squirrel? I remember your old trap series the coyotes were eating your snared animals before you were able to get there.
