Well said. Infinity Ward really nailed it with this mission; in fact, I believe that this was CoD's peak. I don't think we'll see anything like this again until CoD shifts away from this futuristic crap that they've been riding on since 2012. I just can't imagine a grand battle taking place on a fictitious location with fictitious weapons/gear (though I commend them for their creativity) having quite the same awe-inspiring impact that this mission in particular had.

The US Army portion of this game was amazing. I love how it started out with the US finishing the war from CoD 4, America fighting across the waters, the killing happening in a faraway land. Then over time, the Russian invasion happens and America slowly turns to Hell on Earth. This level conveys the despair and hopelessness of a losing fight on our own soil, and the only way to save America was to destroy it. Too bad this was not much further explored in MW3 though...
@DrAnimePhD8 жыл бұрын
It couldn't be helped. It was going to be explored more in MW3, but then Activision decided to fire the original team behind Call of Duty and the Modern Warfare series. (That team now works at EA making the Titanfall series.) Due to the complications, development for MW3 was extremely skewed. With a tight deadline of less then half a year they had to get Sledgehammer to help with a large portion of the game, with a little help from Treyarch. If it wasn't for Sledgehammer, MW3 would've been just like CoD: Ghosts. And now...we have Call of Duty in space.

@markh38857 жыл бұрын
An invasion on US would prove a very costly one for its invaders. A good percentage of americans own weapons, so it would be mass skirmish in the streets if Russian invaders decided to parachute into home land soil. There would be heavy resistance and loss for the invading side since we know our territory. The only successful way of taking a place now is by nuclear arms, or destroying it completely.

Also if we ever get invaded, we have a powerful military thats not to be reckoned with and if that fails...the enemy has now to deal with the whole U.S population that's almost every civilian having some guns in they're house that they wint give up without a fight. Then if not that and if the government's missle silos are still active and some government power still left...then they should be launching "Peacekeepers" all over the U.S destroying any threat that's on american soil, sadly anyone good in the ground wouldn't sruvive, most would have been killed by the enemy already, and if you survive...then its a fallout, all some peacekeepers would be launched at the enemies home land too making them a glowing radioactive goo land.

+godzilla691138MW3 put it this way. Russia would need to get pass Europe in order to make it into the Alantic then would have to find a way to get all of their soldiers across safely. By then America would have countered the offensive and eliminate them. The Chinese would need to get the U.S. Pacific fleet plus all ASEAN members to get to the U.S homeland. Also American forces are in Australia which gives them a huge advantage point for bomber and ballistic missiles. The only open target would be Alaska but I'm sure the U.S. Army has that covered with Canada.

Next level : Of Their Own Accord Game : Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Character : Pvt. James Ramirez Team : U.S. Army Rangers, Navy SEALs Place : Washington, D.C., United States of America Date : Day 5 (August 14th), 2016 - 18:34:20 Elements of the US Army, including the 75th Ranger Regiment are recuperating in an evacuation center, which is beneath the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. Unfortunately, the site has come under attack by Russian forces that are advancing into Washington, D.C. and the site itself must be evacuated by the helicopter group Reaper Two. The Russians have captured many buildings in the capital, erecting SAM sites and pillboxes with caches of captured anti-vehicle weapons in the northern half of the city. After retaking the Department of Commerce building, Ramirez and the rest of Foley's squad halt the Russian advance on the Washington Monument by utilizing re-captured Javelins. Despite their efforts, the squad is overrun and forced to evacuate via a UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter. Manning the minigun, Ramirez is able to buy the evacuating forces some time, but the helicopter takes numerous hits from SAM missiles and crashes. Making a desperate last stand, the Rangers are about to be overrun by Russian troops as a searchlight passes over Ramirez, blinding him. edited by 3XtrEmE August 14th, 2017 - 21:46:00 (9:46 P.M.)

The year 2016 doesn't mean real life AD 2016. Its just a symbol denoting future times since the game never explicitly states which year exactly took place. But yes I get your point, all Modern Warfare series are not just typical games, but prophecies for our real life future politics. For instance, COD4 will predict new revolution in Russia against Kremlin oligarchs who betrayed their people as well as Saudi Arabian monarchy will be overthrown and turns into republic. MW2 predicts USA will be isolated geopolitically and she will lose all traditional allies especially in Europe. MW3 predicts WW3 and the West will no longer be world superpower.

i have to say, this mission brought such chills to me back then and even now... back before this game came out, i think right after the first (CoD: Waw DLC came out) i went on a middle school trip to D.C. for a week. After loving it there and getting to know everything there. MW2 hits me with this. this mission made me mad and sad. (in a good way of course.) this is probably my favorite mission on MW2 and just the atmosphere created for this is just tear jerking. Hans Zimmer is Godlike at this so im not surprised xD
@frickolis25316 жыл бұрын
I had the same reaction, but different order. I played this mission, never been to D.C., and said "cool" because it looked really cool and sad. When I went, I loved D.C., and I would love to go back there. Now when I play the mission, I try to see the locations of where I was at in game, like the Hotel I was staying at. I feel like the scene where you had to do sniper support was either at the building next to my room or the actual room I stayed at was where they were doing the sniper support. Seeing the destruction of these landmarks makes me so sad and mad, like you, and I almost cried seeing the great locations of where I was at.

I suspect it's evening, since the next mission chronologically is Second Sun, and the whole place is dark, and the following mission, Whiskey Hotel, shows a brighter setting, most likely dawn, though that's just what I think. Also, this has to be the most climatic levels I've played on MW2, and possibly the most in the whole Modern Warfare series in COD, especially the starting :/
