As a woman, I love this! No one, man or woman, should be forced to pay alimony for life. I only agree with alimony as a short term solution when the person who DIDN'T file for divorce was making less or a SAHP with little to no income and needs some time to adjust. I don't think it should last for more than 12 months. Edit: I also think alimony should be void if the person who would receive it is at fault. E.g. SAHW cheats on husband, which leads husband to file for divorce; therefore, SAHW is not eligible for alimony.

If you want the traditional wife, you should be willing to help her get established if you choose to file for divorce. And that is if there is no fault too. I don't think alimony should be given to a woman who was a SAHM that cheated on her husband which led him to file for divorce. Instead of looking at who benefits more from this, maybe look at it from a perspective of "does this make sense if it was applied equally to men and women?"

I should have also added it should be no fault. If the SAHP is at fault, e.g. cheating, which leads the non SAHP to file, then the SAHP should not get alimony. Does that help explain this better for you?

Divorced 20 years ago in NC. I got custody of the 3 oldest children and the ex-wife got the youngest child. I still had to pay 40% of my net income to her as child support. The only reason she didn't get alimony was because she didn't even show up for court during the divorce. I asked why I had to pay since I had custody of 3 of the 4 kids and the judge's reply "do you want it to be 50%". Absolutely disgusting how us men are treated in divorce hearings. I filed for divorce due to her having many side kicks while we were married.

I've been married twice. I found out, too late, that my last wife was only in it for the money. She took me for a lot. We both made a very good income. She had no need to take what she took from me other than greed. I hear so many women saying they don't need a man, and can take care of themself. Well, ladies, you don't need the mans money either. I don't know about this group, but in the past I've gotten curious and did some digging into other groups like it. They are almost always fully funded and operated by Democrat activists. A few members might have been Republican but most are Democrats. Sometimes they claim to be lifelong Republicans and then it turns out they were woke activists all along. Think about it. Alimony has its place, to protect stay-at-home mothers from getting kicked to the curb without recourse. Nefarious people will exploit divorce to screw over the family. Permanent Alimony is a different thing. With permanent alimony, you have the ability for nefarious women to permanently screw over their husband. You also need to be careful about dating, depending on where you live. In Canada, the system will automatically consider you as common law if you've been dating for a certain period of time. Your consent is not required. I learned this through a story some years ago, where an Ontario man got sued for alimony by the woman he dated for 2 years. Keep in mind that they were both wealthy and they both lived in their own, separate homes. The system is corrupt.

My ex cheated when I was away serving my country. Came back and discovered I no longer had anything. Moved back in with my parents. Divorce pending, she then brought up alimony. We had no kids and she had never worked during our marriage (she said it was too emotionally hard) despite finances being tough. I was calm until that point. I lost it.
