The first half of the kzbin.infoUgkx3ICSK6nSknaL_45CU2NmFSoXjarGMDiJ book is everything about wood: types, tools, finishes, setting up shop etc. The second half is all about doing projects for inside and outside of the home. The color pictures are helpful. After reading a dozen of these types of books, this is probably the best overall (layout, color photos, plans). Only detraction is that many of the projects use a table saw/router/planer, which are usually expensive and take up space, so the plans are less friendly to newcomers and the budget conscious. But I know I can use a drill, circular saw or a jigsaw to make the projects.
@Galthralla3 жыл бұрын
Love it. My only note would be that it's impossible to move out of that room. Some modularity in the base might make it a little more "move" friendly. Perhaps have the base separate into thirds rather than a single piece.

Such a great video. I really appreciate that you kept the tools used to build this limited to what most average households have (with the exception of the planer).It was also really cool that you demonstrated some more advanced joinery, fit & finish techniques using entry level affordable power tools sold at Home Depot and Walmart. Your skill and use of the circular saw was impressive as well. You turned that circular saw into a Table saw, chop saw, band saw and router. Made to look a lot easier that it is for someone who is not proficient with the tools. Maybe you already have videos like that on you channel and if so I shall just add one more check box to the open mouth insert foot tally sheet for my life.

no need to predrill the boards it's a 2x4 made of pine, it will be fine. If you really wanted to you could tack the spacer on with ca glue or a finishing nail or brad then drill. Use 3 bits of 2x4 for each of the four standard feet, a bit like a castle joint. That would be the simplest options, but you'd lose the platform look (even if you can choose to set them away from the ridge, not to far though for stability). Another option would be to weld a metal frame under the slate, very strong and takes even less space. Or you could use the same method as for the bed slate and use spacers to reduce the amount of wood used.

It's pretty but seems excessive. 5x 2x4 with supports 60" away from each other can support 500lb per foot collectively. It would have proabably made more sense to just build a regular frame box and add the pieces at the end, since you lose the length view by sticking spacers in it anyway. Plus you could make 2 or 3 separate boxes and bolt them together so you can move it between rooms and upstairs with a lot less effort and damage. The sides could even be doubled up if you want that full length piece without seams (if not painted. I like the idea and look, minus the supports.
