I was searching for bedframes a few weeks ago to gather ideas. I bookmarked a number of videos I liked, and I'm going back through the list today to start solidifying my plans. Nice work 👍🏼 To check for square with something more reliable than a speed square, use a Pythagorean triple like 3:4:5, pull 3' on one side 4' on the longer side and adjust the box until the 3' & 4' measures 5' diagonally, then you're square. This can be scaled up to 6:8:10 & 12:16:20 etc for bigger projects.

@OVHabitats2 жыл бұрын
I enjoyed your video. I never thought of using the motion sensor on the led lights. Pure genius. As a contractor I can find a hundred things I would change on every build video. In this case there are only 2. 1. A mistake I made in a bed build is you should have recessed the slats approximately 3/4" and placed 1/4" luan, MDF, Ply (no matter) or the mattress will begin to fail and you will feel every slat. 2. The top trim boards should be under sized by 1/2" to 3/4" in length and width. These two things force the mattress down 1/2" which gives a neater appearance in the corners and prevents the mattress from shifting.

Watched a bunch of floating bed videos, and this was the best. I was installing over hardwood, and used cheap lumber, so made the following adjustments for my case: - Instead of staining the 2x8s, nailed a stained hardwood 1x8 fascia on the front and top - my lumber was too cheap to stain or paint, so upholdstered black felt over the bottom box, which also served to be protection over the floor. Looked great. - used hurricane straps to connect bottom to top box - to avoid future squeaks, did not screw slats down, but instead lined the top of 2x2 (2x3 in my case) and inside of the box with leftover felt, and then held the slats in place with webbing screwed in-between the slats. - instead of ripping a 2x8, just used a 2x6 and placed the 2x3's to match

For DYI and workshop enthusiasts where saws and drills roaring all the time, few claps should be totally fine. I was just wondering how this design could be turned into less permanently nailed build, an assembled one that can be moved easily. Great content!

For the headboard I found the standard Ghost Wood boards sold at Home Depot in-store. They’re like $13-21 a Board depending on size. Worth it. I also used pocket holes to hold everything together, including the 2x4 top edging. Other than that, I followed your plans and it turned out great. Made my wife happy. Those lights work great too. @GoldenKeyDesign Жыл бұрын

I made one like that in '82 and still use it however I discovered the " Torsion Box " by Ian Kirby, Fine Woodworking, '82. Its basically a box consisting of a " honeycomb " type network of 1/4 " plywood covered by two sheets of 1/4 " plywood. It's like an airplane wing, very light and very resistant to twisting ( torsion ). It's important to rip all the pieces ( sides and " honey comb " at the same width without changing the fence. I made one for my table saw runoff table 20 yrs ago and it's still doing great. Nice job on yours though.

Tip, don't screw your slats you want them to be able to give for more comfort...make spacers between them and anchor them

Yes Sir! Amazing! Can you please let me know the measurements for a Kink size? I want to build it and I am at the store and realize this is for a Queen size…
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I believe a king is 16” wider than a queen and the same length. So just add 16” to the width of my measurements in the description

Yikes!!! DUDE WTFudge!!! Watching this video with air pod pro's on transparency mode on my lunch break sitting in my car at a gas station, rough neighborhood, thought that first hand clap was a GunShot!!! Lmbooo, almost dropped my hot dog 🌭 🤣
@GoldenKeyDesign2 жыл бұрын
Haha! I'm sorry abut that. There is no clapping in any of my other videos lol

My _only_ issue with using this style and design is that the room I'm moving into is up a pretty steep set of stairs that starts _at_ the door at the bottom. It would go together upstairs and have to be disassembled to move it someday. 😅

I have a suggestion for you:- Make that headboard 1-2 inches away from the wall and put some lights back there so it will look like that board is not touching the wall just like the bed is not touching the ground. Btw, I really appreciate it!

when ripping on a table saw, put the thicker part of the wood between the blade and the fence

It's cool that you tackle this project even though you are without proper place to work...like us normals.

I suggest you to cover the gaps between the small and the big box in order to avoid dust and dirth stuffs!!
