Nope, you only have to register of you want to interface your radio with your pc to access that way.

Just a wires x node to connect to, a power supply and an antenna. There may be some in your area.

@@ModernHam My understanding is that the FTM- 100 & power supply can also connect to Windows PC with the Wires-X cable, Wires-X software to setup a Personal Digital Mode to get into Wires-X. If you have another radio (HT or mobile) you may be able to reach your node in access point mode.

I’m thinking of getting one, but my question is, do I need a computer for any reason to be able to use this radio? I don’t have a computer and right now all I have are analog radios. Thanks

It does aid in programming, but all of the functions that can be done on the computer can be done on the radio itself,besides updating it.

One mistake Yaesu made is the Wires-X data transmissions are very short and can be lost. So if Wires-X doesn't engage or, as seen, the room won't enter, be ready to spam it a few times. This is especially true if you're connecting to a multi-mode MMDVM repeater as it will often miss the transmission while it scans modes.

You don not call CQ on a repeater. Never!

Typically this is the case. However you will notice that wires-x rooms are much different if you've been in one.
