Cold weather long trip :-Warm the cabin up whilst it's still plugged in! Before you leave . Once it's up to cabin temp the PTC heater doesn't draw much energy , I rarely go above 2 red bars . Once it's up to cruising speed even in cold weather it's still efficient. Use Eco in cruising mode .

My only comment I'd like to make is that I recommend to fill up with screen wash before you leave ha and reset both the current and cumulative tripometer which in turn resets the GOM. I think your sensible approach to sticking at 60mph helped massively on range. Another thing to mention is that if you're tying to conserve energy then turning heating off all together will help and instead just use the heated seats which do not use the HV traction battery as they seats are fed off the 12v when compared to the heater in the ZS that pulls up to 4kW when warming car. Good vid!

Thanks, and you are not boring as some rude commentators proclaim. The problem I would have with the MG is the range is borderline useful, just not quite enough, yes I know you can live with it, but it would always be nagging in the background. Fast DC chargers are essential, and as you suggest, pretty soon all the petrol stations will have to adapt and offer DC chargers. I would also worry that depreciation of the MG could be horrific, who knows. Yes I drive an EV, and no not a Tesla.
@ModernHeroes3 жыл бұрын
Not terribly worried about depreciation - offset by a lower initial purchase price and a practical short-medium range EV is going to be in high demand on the used market. It is a gamble of course, with a relatively unknown manufacturer. MG5 could be worth a look if the ZS falls short on range - it’s a little short on features though, that’s the trade off!

Thanks for sharing that with us. I find the GOM a bit pointless, until you are nearing an empty battery, then I watch distance left on Satnav to the GOM, then it becomes useful. I would love to see the algorithm used to calculate the Range, must be pretty weird. I find it best to calculate journey range, miles/kw , Eg 42x2.8 = 118 miles. If I could change the algorithm, that is how I would prefer to see the range. Regarding range at higher speeds, it is easy to see the effect, yesterday I was in a hurry to get Covid Jab and got it down to 2.2mile/kw, coming home it brought the average back up to 2.8. I find the satnav pretty good with clear display, however it is a bit painful putting in Postcode or address. I usually set it up before hand save it, then it is easy to call up. Keep up the good videos.

Similar to the figures I got recently. With the 110 miles plus the GOM divided by the 2.9 miles/kWh suggests a 43.45 kWh battery which is more than the 40 kWh size I think it is. 110 miles at 2.9 miles/kWh means you used 38kWh so probably closer to empty than you think. A % figure would be a lot more useful. On longer journeys I calculate the miles/kWh I need to achieve to avoid running out and then use the current journey screen to decide if I need to charge instead of the GOM.

Thanks again for this winter range review - something that would definitely of concern for me living rural in the low mountain range. We got some decent winters. My feeble Zoe R90ZE40's winter range is - when the going gets tough - about 180km and maybe 200km on a full charge, if I'm lucky. But yes, I can pre condition the car either by the built-in planner or by the (crappy) "MyRenault" smart phone app. As you mentioned ACC - other KZbinrs reported that when using the ACC, the car decelerates using the disc brakes instead of regen as suggested by the needle of the "PowerMeter" not wandering off into the "charge" section of the dial. Now wonder if that's just a display error or if MG, pardon, SAIC engineering just forgot about that or lifted it from the petrol version of the car (which probably has MG Pilot sending brake commands to the anti locking brake control unit for the lack of regen of the engine). If that is true, that would really be kind of a bummer..hmmm...
@ModernHeroes3 жыл бұрын
It’s true that it doesn’t use regen on ACC - MG have used an off the shelf Bosch L2 autonomous driving module seemingly designed for ICE cars (I don’t even think you can buy an ICE MG equipped with it though!)

@ModernHeroes3 жыл бұрын
Not sure the average speed was actually that low - the only bit of the journey that you’d realistically be able to do 70mph for a prolonged amount of time was on the M40 which was less than a third of the total distance. Impact on the journey time was fairly trivial in the grand scheme of things

Which just reflects that its not the new car price that reflects affordability for lower earners - the used market plays the main role. Which is what our Scottish friend was telling us. There is a reason why I got a 64kwh car rather than a more affordable 30-4th one. I've got 0 anxiety in mine, can get to all my family spread out across the UK in 0-1 recharges. We don't therefore need an ice alternative which saves money

@@stevezodiac491 even if by some miracle you averaged 70mph that means a 550 mile journey took 7.8 hours. I suspect the real time figure was at least 10 hours allowing for lower speeds. I would want more than a 10 minute stop. Frankly your concentration would not have been up to scratch at various points what you did was dangerous. Ona 10 hour trip id be happy stopping much longer than that. Two hour stops would be fine by me. I believe you have unrealistic expectations or are not being wholly truthful now. Edit. The dacia sandero has a 50l fuel tank, it claims 40 - 50 mpg. It therefore has a range of 50/4.5 x 40-50 = 444 to 533 miles. You're claiming 580 miles of range. So you also on a super fast high speed journey got super high mpg. Did I catch you in a lie?

All subjunctive and not scientific for a 'real range' test. Too many variables.

🙄 most people’s journeys aren’t scientific or under prescribed conditions either.
