@@taskmaster1234 They have one, actually. He's a Pura Raza stallion called Ghost. He's still in training, but if you want to see what such horses could do when fully trained, have a look at Portuguese corrida.
@taskmaster12346 жыл бұрын
@@bakters yeah I know how they look and what they can do. Your answer had me suggesting that you thought that Pretty girl in in the video ist no warhorse material. Cause I think otherwise. She got a well muscled body and fine movements. But like he said she is in training. So I guess she is a proper warhorse
@bakters6 жыл бұрын
@@taskmaster1234 Ghost belongs to the people of this show. When I wrote the comment, I thought they couldn't afford such beasts, but apparently they can. Regarding how high I rate this Pretty girl - I think she's fine, but not breath taking, please can I lick your mane kind of gorgeous. Knights were top dogs of their society. While it may be hard to figure out how much money they spent on horses, we know much better how much Winged Hussars (whom I consider to be more recent and better documented knight analogues) spent on their horses. From 7 to 17 kilos of silver is what I read. She's not worth that much, is she? Ghost could be, though. When fully trained and if your life depended on his performance.

There are two things that I do love about this channel: 1. Horses 2. Practical or experimental showcases of the history. Most of the content in the mentioned channels is given in a theoretical form, where e.g Matt explains "in dry" how a cut may or may not work and things like that, while here we can see the some "action". And I do not think just about the fighting, I loved the food section. Just because it is one so overlooked but crucial part of life. And seeing the food, how it was made makes it more "real". And the horses. I think that we tend to forget how big part of life horses were in history. It could be because they are not "cool" or simply because horses are expensive and not many people have experience with them, but this channel does showcases how important the horse is.

One thing I've never been able to figure out nor can find much information on is 10th/11th century saddles like those used by Norman's and mainland western Europeans like the French and germans or rather what would become the french and germans. The saddles seem to have a rolled top that almost reminds me of Victorian era orchestra instruments. Itd be cool if your next saddle was one like that. Also I'd love a video going over the rest of the tack more, bit and bridle, historic examples of horse harness hardware and decoration, the different strapping methods used ect. Especially stirrups and the design change through the ages and what they were made of. Great video man keep it up.

The medieval saddle looks to me like a severe or tight western have seen the double girth straps on someone’s western saddle. She said it was so one could adjust where the girth goes. I am glad it fits you both well. A friend of my mom’s told us about deciding to go for a ride after a dinner with a few beverages consumed. The horse was delighted to be out riding so the owner decided to go over a few jumps. The horn of the western saddle caught under her bra as she was descending from the jump and she got quite a bruised sternum since she couldn’t unhook as the horse moved off.

As a person who rides mostly English, but has ridden in all kinds of saddles for about 40 years, e.g. all-purpose, flat seat, dressage, saddle-seat, Icelandic, western, and endurance riding for Arabians, and modern side-saddle (I’ve yet to ride in an Australian stock saddle and a McClellan cavalry saddle), I wondered if your saddle sits higher above her spine, or did it just look like it did before you sat on it and without the leather and padding. From my limited experience, it looked like you had it correctly behind her shoulder blades and centered over her back, but I was not able to see the gullet clearance or how the part that straddles her rib cage fit. And I am hardly a saddle fitting expert, but these are things I was taught to look for when saddling up. More often than not, since I don’t own my own saddle nor my own horse, I’m often riding in saddles that are a bit too small for me, but just right for the horse, so I have to adjust my riding position to accommodate the saddle and the horse without annoying it. I’m only 5’6” tall, so not too big as a man, but having a good fitting saddle for both horse and also the rider are critical for proper riding performance. As for the girth, what kind of girth would be designed for your saddle? Perhaps something similar to a modern side-saddle?
