Love the place you've found there. After living in a similar place in Australia I would highly recommend leaving the shipping container as your power house and lift it up higher on steel stumps, possibly as high as the house and get as much out from under the house as possible with bigger water storage solutions. This will keep your expensive batteries and solar out of danger and accessible in the snow.

Sonofagun!! After watching a lot of videos of people moving to Alaska, I finally see a place I totally know!! It is a well built place, make sure the window screens are all good. You will need them!! I have sat on that deck and had morning tea there. She preferred tea over coffee. Enjoy the place. Lots of room for having such a small footprint. I lived in Alaska for 51 years, from Ketchikan to Fairbanks and all points in between. Unfortunately I had to leave due to health reasons and am in the hills of Tennessee. I will always miss Alaska but I do not miss 40 below and the dang mosquitoes!! Enjoy the place. Thanks for the videos. retired ole Ron.

Hi Jessica and sweet family! I just love the cabin and it’s located by the river with a spectacular view is beyond perfect. I’m sure your mother will fell like her wish came true. Very nice cabin and set up! Been there in Wasilla,many times. Everyone in Alaska has planes, lots of pilots and they generally in town will share a take off/landing strip just behind a row of houses in town. Pretty cool. Nice place. Whoever put the steel door and bars on the windows knew what they were doing. Thats to keep bear and moose from getting inside the cabin and ramsacking it. And trespassers too. A defensive measure, very smart. Your mom has a nice place there. Smart purchase.

Nice place. Been there done that got the T-shirt. The 3-month's of summer is how they hook you. It's so nice. But that road in, and the water splashing up to the door handles will be "ICE" the other 9-months. And cold and wind will be your constant reminder and friend. You have enough wood back there for a week. Best get a move on getting more or else, because propane doesn't work at -20 or -40 degrees. Without the wood you'll be done for. The easiest way to help your cabin is to go out and buy hay bales and use that as underpinning. It'll keep that cabin 20 degrees warmer this winter. And can't catch on fire because it's compressed. Also stapel plastic around the windows and then put wood strips on the outside.

Yeah 2nd winter in the cabin under way! Lady winter was hard, we added a bunch of insulation and skirting and maybe it works maybe not we will see.

So fun to go fishing right out the door. Hope your mother loves it. Sad part is the river will wash the land away. I grew up by the Mississippi River and it has washed over 3 miles of the highway away, The dock and parking lot is gone. The dirt breaks off in big pieces and floats down the river. Don't mean to scare you. Put a iron post in the ground and watch how close the river will get to it over time.

When my family had out cottage up north, it was off grid before it was fashionnable. We really had a fridge that work on propane. No equipement needed exceot the fuel.

That’s so amazing I don’t full understand wanting to live fully off grid but it’s a thing for sure. I guess I’m saying year round 365 days. It’s fun for a bit but I like my shower and washer and dryers
