Modernizing Manila's Water Supply

The Asian Development Bank is working with the Philippines to modernize Manila's water supply and reduce the risk of water shortages as demand rises in tandem with the city's booming population.
An ADB funded project used modern tunnel boring technology to excavate a fourth supply tunnel for the Angat-Ipo reservoirs, a major source of water for Metro Manila. The technology is faster, cheaper, and safer than the traditional drill and blast method. The tunnel was completed in June 2020, and rehabilitation works will begin on existing supply tunnels in 2021, ensuring continuous water supply.

The gov’t is the only organization capable of handling the entire business affairs on how to take care of the water and the constant maintenance it needs-it must be clean at all times-for drinking, and it must be completely free of toxin. I hope your gov’t was successful in getting the control of water supply management and ownership last year-not leave in the hands of private agency, or oligarch. Peter Barroga everyone understands that people leave the province to work in the larger cities, this is pretty normal world wide. You see the move to use the COVID19 excuse to repatriate squatters and regular workers back to the province? It is a move by the same oligarchs that have been running the Philippines for years to keep the poor... poor. The best thing the poor can do is to stop providing a slave work force for the rich. Make the rich fill their own job quotas, and you will see some change. Family spacing is a good program, so is protection, it will reduce the number of unmarried teenage pregnancies in the PI, and help to distribute jobs, but this is going to take 20 years to happen.

Even more importance, I think, because Metromanila is drowning in sewage. Hinulugang Taktak is a prime example. They will have more clean water to use but it also means more dirty water to process. Nog Nog, pwedeng hindi pero mas sigurado ang suplay nang tubig papunta sa mga bahay. Ang isang dapat na pina-project ay itong Laguna lake. Dapat mahukay para mabawasan ang mga lumot na siyang bumabara sa mga filters nang mga planta na sumisipsip diyan, magiging maganda pa ang lasa nang mga isda na makukuha. Nog Nog actually that is a good idea to have homes with gray water systems for flushing toilets. But, once you look at how many live outside the system, even building homes on squatted land. You can see what a problem this is alone. In provincial areas, there are still many that have no access to city water, collect rain water in buckets, barrels etc only few have manual wells. it is good to see any progress but these projects, there is so much graft and corruption involved, the average Filipino is the last person the govt is thinking about and will only do some small local road project to get a few votes come election time.
