Laboratory techician experienced in lab distillations here, the reason the first batch had a strong doctor pepper smell but mostly tasted like water is that organic compounds called esters are used as artificial flavours and scents (especially fruit type scents) in commercial products, and they generally have a relatively low boiling point. So your first batch probably had most of the esters and then water, while the later batches started having syrups. With a more refined setup you probably could seperate just the esters for a nice dr. pepper essential oil, and then flavourless water before hitting the syrups.. Also in the long term drinking distilled water is actually dangerous, since it has no salts in it. in a survival situation you should add a pinch of salt (and if possible honey) to your distillate, or you could experience a decrease in metabolic function from the distilled water absorbing salts from your body (through diffusion) and an increase in urine output that leads to electrolyte imbalance (essentially the water goes right through you and draws salts as it goes, which ironically causes symptoms similiar to dehydration).

You sir are an idiot. The negatively charged distilled water draws out the positively charged inorganic toxic compounds, out of your body . Salt or sodium chloride is inorganic and exists in no fruit or vegetable but in rock . Are you made of rock sir ? I suggest you open your eyes instead of burying them in your books. Distilled water is water at its purest form as nature intended. Any deviation from this law is what ultimately kills you. The accumulation of drinking water with inorganic "minerals" over a period of time is the root cause of all disease. aquariusthewaterbearer.com/doctors-and-experts/

*SIMPLE SOLUTION:* *_With that "distiller", to discourage the leaking contaminated water would be to use tape from the inside exit hole there too, otherwise just bend the very end of the pipe upward until at least 6 inches out is level and THEN tie a small piece of cordage or duct tape right next to the exit hole of the bucket. This will cause the leaking contaminated water to accumulate & drip there, & will not run along the pipe to the end or into the final container & will not inhibit the flow of distilled water from dripping out the end of the pipe. And YES, I have personally done this to distill...."water"_* 18:13

Here's why you got the smell first: The aromatic compounds, (the things you smell) vaporize at such low temps, that you can smell them when you drink the soda. This means they are much more volatile than the water. So, they came out first. Remember that smell is most of the sensation of tasting things. The other compunds that your tongue can detect, the sugar, acids, salt, in the soda dont evaporate.

The reason you got the smell and not the taste is because of all the artificial flavors. They are esters that will distill out at about the same temperatures as essential oils (before or with water) but contain no actual taste reception. The acidity, sweetness and bite come from compounds that distill out after most of the water has come out.

Very important clarification: distilled water is not safe to drink for hydration. If you are distilling water for survival, it's crucial to cut it with a bit of saline solution. There are videos and other resources that explain this much better than I can, but water without minerals does not absorb properly, so a slight salt content is vital for safe drinking water.

Short-term it's fine, but once you've consumed a few days worth of your fluid instake as distilled water instead of as "normal" fluids, there'll be trouble.

Mabs Ulster used to make an air tight seal on cast iron Dutch ovens or other lidded oven pots when baking things like chicken in them to keep the steam in, so careful of that if someone cooks for you

Use the flour for powder explosions. Blow air through to make a flour cloud. Add ignition source. I’ve done this with custard powder in a funnel, a tube to blow air through from my lungs, and a flame from Bunsen clamped horizontally over the funnel. Can be a big flame, ensure you are away from funnel.

I would recommend getting tiny clamps for going around the lid/pot. Also use a small water pump for the condenser bucket and use a tube to syphon the out water from the very top. Paint buckets work good for holding the condenser and you can stack them to keep the condenser off the ground.
