I torched some considerable fat this year as well. Went from >300 lbs down to ~216, and ran my first half marathon. Body fat is at about 11-13% currently (abs and other muscles are definitely visible), so there isn’t much further I can feasibly drop (keeping in mind I’m also 6’3”). Went from wearing 4XL shirts down to just regular XL as well. Definitely been a game changer. As much as I’d enjoyed the video games of my youth, looking at how rapidly I was able to get myself into shape, I kind of wish high-school me had the confidence to get into serious sports (not American Football though, hate that). I’d have probably been a monster. Could probably do competitive cycling though. I’m not exactly a lightweight even now, though I can put out tons of power for long periods of time.

I’ve loved how the emulation and decomp stuff has evolved over the past year. Sure, Switch emulation took a huge blow with both Yuzu and Ryujinx being shut down, but it’s crazy how quickly PS4 emulation has taken off this past year (specifically for Bloodborne 😂), and the Xbox One translation layer thing is also pretty cool. Glad your videos are doing better too. I’ve heard that the KZbin game is fickle; sometimes audiences just don’t vibe with particular videos… other times it’s just good old-fashioned _KZbin shenanigans,_ but I want you to know that I always look forward to your videos at 8am Eastern on Monday morning right as I start work
@Manic_Panic
@Manic_Panic 24 күн бұрын
Unfortunately that translation layer has not moved at all since it was announced, I guess the developers have found difficult things to unpack. ShadPS4 on the other hand is like it's going on the highway. 3D games are going ingame or becoming playable in a matter of weeks (Metaphor, Gravity Rush 2, Yakuza 0) and I guess thanks to x86, it's not demanding at all, people with a GTX 1650 can run PS4 games pretty smoothly.

My favorite videos are the ones that dive into the history of games and hardware; whether it's development history, the cracking history, or somewhere in-between, I appreciate the research you put into those videos. I also think it's a valuable knowledge resource. You even sometimes get modern commentary from developers who worked on the project, and that's such a cool addition. Great channel and great update MVG. For sure they'll be an increase in vintage gaming interest from all the vintage replica machines, fpga and emulation systems. Getting actual hardware from the 80s and fixing it up is getting harder and harder. Before, like say the 2000s, you'd get a vintage system and you might have to change a leaking battery or capacitor. But at least you could still find tube monitors and the drives would still work. Now if you find a system you have to change custom parts or out of production parts after doing a lot of troubleshooting and research. Then you'll have to find monitor and drive solutions. Unless your sentimentally attached to a system it's not worth it for most people.

I had a lot of health issues come at me in 2020 (not COVID, at least) and those were a wake up call that I had to do the same; put some focus on my physical fitness and eat healthier. I'm turning 45 this year and am in the best shape of my life. I still indulge (snack) from time to time, but it's always in moderation. I follow set calorie and macro-nutrient goals (fat, protein, carbs) and budget accordingly. It's not always fun, but neither would be dying from something avoidable by simply taking care of myself.

Congrats! Well deserved. I know whenever you upload a video, it's going to be solid content. Content I'd like to see is on game modifications. History of game mods and future of game mods. Mods that pushed the game engine further, changed gaming, better than original game, and were otherwise recognition worthy. Game mods I remember playing: Counter Strike, FireArms (for half-life), Natural Selection (this could be it's own video on how far they pushed the engine), other half-life mods. Garry's mod, First Strike (battlefield mod), DOTA, the list could go on. I can't even remember half the mods I've installed and played over the years.

So please keep talking about hardware (comparison, deep-dive, design etc...) and "milestone events" 🙏! What I also really like about your channel is your awareness (and yet objective approach) of game preservation in general, which is very important (especially if we consider what have changed/disapeared in the last years...), so it would be very cool if you keep us updated 😃 Anyway, congratulations for your amazing work, and thanks again! A video about how you do your development would be interesting IMO, ex. your dev. setup, your preferences (code languages, styles etc. ), pre-planning code vs. just starting and rewriting until you have all the pieces together, gamedev vs. demo-scene-dev. etc. (ie. kind of like your version of Eskil Steenberg's "How I program in C" video) I just think it would be cool to hear from a programmer that gets stuff done/shipped vs. the more regular "programmer influencer" youtubers that either only prototype MVPs, jump on the currently trendy js-framework/untested-new-language. I don't know if its a popular topic but 1 video for posterity would be cool.

Long time subscriber here. I must say that I haven't been watching many of your videos this year. Not because of the quality, but the types of videos. The one's that interested me the most are your console videos, where you do a deep dive on how the PS3 or the N64 work f.e. But you always seem genuine. Keep up the good work!

I watch you because you're kind, smart, and thorough. You work in the biz, you've developed emulators and games yourself. You know what you're talking about and you present your knowledge in an easy to understand way. Your topics are always intriguing. As far as topic suggestions, I always love modern homebrew for retro consoles coverage.

Always great to see an MVG video, one of the guys who explains complex topics easily. Your game engine videos was great to see, would be interesting to see game creation, or even something like a game jam. I also started recently watching Thors channel and you both give that yoda/mentor vibes.

Hey MVG! Thank you for the years of quality content. I really dig the Impossible Port series and your in-depth analyses on console hacks/homebrew. A lot of the Playstation 3 community has done a ton of work in reviving legacy games that have had their servers shut down (PS Home, SAVEMGO, GTA Online). It could be a fun video idea in the future to explore that side of the community! On a personal note, Last year you gave me advice on growing my YT Channel. Since then, I have had a lot of success in growing my channel, and can't thank you enough 🙏 Keep up the great work man, looking forward to seeing what you have in store for 2025!

Only found your content super recently in the last couple months, but went back through your catalogue and loved it. I would say 100% your content is so much better in terms of editing, flow and depth of explanation of what you're covering. You fill a great niche alongside channels like RetroGameMechanicsExplained and ZZAZZ of deep diving coding in games which is super accessible for the non-coding/computer oriented folk like myself. Love YOUR work, keep doing what you're doing

I for one really appreciate your style of content MVG. Your background in the industry and wealth of knowledge along with your small scale, personal style of content is still refreshing to watch. We've lost some big names from the platform in the last 12-18 months so to hear you speak at the end of the year and tell us you still have stuff you want to tell us and are still willing and able to do it is fantastic news! Happy Holidays MVG 👍

I always loved your "how graphics worked" videos on this and that console and also the videos on how N64, PS1 and so on works. I keep on re-watching those. Secretly hoping for how graphics worked episodes on the Atari Lynx and Amiga 500 too. ^^ (On the point of getting a bit older, strict keto and intermittent fasting literally saved my life, nice to see you healthier too).

And then I see your content, and you're truly inspiring, talented and deeply knowledgeable about an industry that it's so interesting and complex. And then you tell us that you're healthy, happy and satisfied with your life, as well. Thank you. I'll keep trying.
