Been trying to wrap my head around modes for months and this solidified it for me. The way you explain things as well as your graphics are perfect

I thought I understood modes but I only had the bare bones basics. Thanks for a thorough explanation. I've got a lot of studying to do!

Spectacular video, gonna go back over some of those songs you mentioned for each mode tonight. I did have one question though. When you were spelling out the chords for each mode, why in some cases is it just the triad, and in other cases you used 7ths? For example your correction for Locrian having the Flat 6 Dominant chord. Technically just the Flat 6 (triad) chord is within the mode as well right? Why the addition of the Dominant there?

Great question! If I included the seventh, it should be because the characteristic note is the 7th of that chord, in which case the triad wouldn't have as much of a cadential sound. The Locrian bVI7 is an example of this, where the b7 in that chord is the characteristic note of the Locrian sound. I hope that makes sense!

thanks for the explanation , actually I thought Locrian mode is so cool and also C flat Major I know they aren't common but all modes got "something" and combine them also is kinda cool , I'm just a experimental musician and always testing an learning techniques , even if only like by myself lol , and again thank you for sharing amazing video

There seems to be an emotional shift in the middle of the Star spangled banner. While I think some of it has to do with the lyrics, I'm also convinced that its the use of a Lydian based melody to start with that morphes to Natural Major (ionian), for a more grounded and resolved sound. As the lyrics go from hopefull and uncertain to courageous and victorious.

This is too complicated and advanced for me, overwhelming! I need something more basic. 😮?

Are you familiar with your basic major and minor scales? For example, do you know the notes of an A major scale without looking?
@sandrafrancis36313 ай бұрын
@@MusicTheoriesChannel yes I do! I've studied theory up to G5 bit of G6. I watched some other videos on modes more basic, I think I'm getting it!? 🤔 ?
