Basically, when it became easier to download your songs from the internet for free than it was to go to the store to buy a CD, was when the music industry as we knew it died.

in brazil, we call the perfect 5th and perfect 4th as "quinta justa" and "quarta justa" or just 5th and just 4th, i believe thats because the 5th and the 4ths in the 12 equal temperament maintains the same ratio as in the just intonation, and for some reason they call if perfect in english

Please, remove this video! I respect all the work you had to make an analysis but your analysis is completelly flawed and wrong! For many reasons: 1 - Your point of view is ethnocentric, and gets close to be called racist or offensive. When you talk “periods” in music, you are talking about “Western” music. What about Asian music? What about African music? Then, when you concentrate on XX century music, it U.S. music (mainly), or, to be precise, music genres originated in U.S. What about ALL THE REST OF THE WORLD?!? In case you don’t know, the rest of the World does have genres, yes, and you don’t have a clue how they are important. The differenciation of music genres in the rest of the World is important for several reasons: a) Generally, each genre has its way of dancing. It is not like when you go to the U.S. and kids in clubs or festivals dance anything the same way (little jumps or shaking the head). Genres like salsa, samba, soukous, bhangra, etc., ARE NOT DANCED THE SAME WAY. You have to know which genre it is prior to know how to dance it. If you claim that, if you wish, you may dance them as you want you are only contributing to the prejudice that “white folks can’t dance”. b) Many genres are associated with a mood or a thematics in the lyrics. A bolero is always a romantic tune, expressing a deep degree of lyricism that you won’t find in dancehall, for instance. So, outside the U.S., when composers decide to write about a particular theme, the choose which genre to use. c) Some genres are a question of national identity and pride. Some genres are strongly connected to ethnic identification, such a way that if you confuse a genre from one country with another from another country, or if you claim that the song “X” may be played in any genre, you will get a reaction that ranges from you to be called ignorant, to the least, to you be persecuted to the worst. Do a research about what tango is for Argentinians, fado for Portuguese, morna for Cape-Verdeans. 2 - You are mistaking (or confusing) several concepts. That doesn’t allow you to make a clear analysis. For instance, there is a difference between electronic music and synthetic music. Do your research. Also, “popular music” and “pop” are not the same thing (even if the label “pop” comes from the world “popular”). a) Popular music is a broad CATEGORY of music genres which are addressed to the general public. You can see it as “commercial music”. It opposes to classical music (erudite or art music), it opposes to folk music (traditional music). b) Pop is music GENRE, carachterized by 4/4 time signature, accentuation on the first beat and highlighting the backbeat. c) Popular music in U.S. encompasses pop, rock, metal, disco, funk, EDM, etc. Reggaetón is popular music in Latin-America, but reggaetón is NOT pop. Kizomba is popular in Angola and in other countries but it is NOT pop. 3 - Finally, how can you talk about music genres without mentioning what defines the music genres (rhythm, time signature, structure, harmonic progression, instrumentation, etc.)? Are you even a musician? Do you even play some instrument? Maybe it doesn’t matter for the music that YOU hear. But, please, take a broader viewpoint, and you will see that all that stuff is utterly important in other music genres. In Cuban music if you go “out of clave” or if you mistake a son clave for a rumba clave it is considered a “sin” (and you will probably be expelled from the band…) for these concepts are important to DEFINE the genre. Another example of how these concepts are important: waltz has a 3/4 time signature, house has a 4/4 time signature. If you don’t understand how the f*** that is important to define those genres, you are not the best person for talking about these subjects. Again, please remove the video.

Why don’t more people collect cassettes? Because: - It’s a completely outdated technology (1963) - It’s an analog system in a digital world - there are better and more user friendly options now - most brands don’t make cassettedecks anymore - they don’t produce high quality blank tapes anymore - cassettes aren’t promoted anymore - Dolby has ceased their licensing for new cassette decks since 2016 - it’s not proffitable anymore to sell cassette decks - every smartphone is also a music player already - great recordings needs some technical knowledge and time to make - it’s not the eighties - … The real question is: Why would people collect cassettes? - nostalgia

Wow this was Good! Well produced too! Am off now in search of an explanation of why humans find particular pitches satisfying. Is that where sharps and flats come in? What is their wave form? Do we just like repetitive stuff?

Thank you! Humans' relationship to music is sort of a mystery in many ways, but I think what it comes down to is conditioning. This is clear when people who are used to Western music listen to music from the East - they often feel out of place or reject it entirely because its not familiar to them. But I do have other videos that might help answer the question further - check out "The Overtone Series" and "Consonance + Dissonance" !

15:26 With a C major scale, why we choose 6th and name it A minor scale? why the 6th? does it have special connection? Why we can't pick the 4th instead of the 6th from a C major scale and get F minor from that? Or maybe there are 7 degrees starting point and the 6th is just happened to be called "minor" scale?
@MusicTheoriesChannel
@MusicTheoriesChannel 24 күн бұрын
This is a great question! I have a video that answers this in depth: "MODES - What are they good for?" kzbin.info/www/bejne/npCadad6i6ioi8U But to answer your question quickly, its because they share the same notes. If we write out the notes of the A minor scale (A B C D E F G), we get the same notes as a C major scale starting on the 6th. This applies to every single major scale as well. For example: The G major scale is G A B C D E F#. - it's 6th degree is E, and E minor shares those same notes in its scale (E F# G A B C D) The long answer has to do with how we perceive the order of those notes. Even though they are the same notes, because they are in a different order we have a different concept of the tonal center. This is the case for each degree of the scale, even the 4th. But when we start the C major scale from the 4th (F), it doesn't sound minor. It actually sort of sounds brighter than major - this is the Lydian scale. This is what we call Modal!

It is indeed very convenient and easy in today's time to listen to music because of the music streaming platforms brought to us by the internet. There is no need to individually purchase each album or single of your favorite artists. By simply paying a subscription fee, you can listen to any music you desire. However, despite the modern way of listening to music, you still long for the physical record that may deteriorate over time but holds memories of the past, especially of your youth. Having a collection of records is a testament to your love for the art of music, and while buying albums of your favorite artists may have been expensive, there were plenty of options available due to the thriving music industry, as artists used to earn more from records back then than they do now.
