0:31 - pretty cool little warm-up jam, i mean check this part out 1:04 1:16 - "we're gonna make one up here for ya, on the spot, i think"... oh shit 4:54 - this where shit gets real 6:20 - this is where it slows down 7:00 - 13:16 - Doin' the Cockroach 13:41 - 19:17 - Dark Center of the Universe - i guess the amount of times to repeat the verse here before the transition to the chorus wasn't well practiced, so isaac i guess had a hard time getting everyone to kick into that next part. just an observation tho - also it ends up having a slowed pace in the chorus so its sounds pretty funky (\m/) 19:26 - "SUMMER!" he's not wearing any socks? ah mans that's harsh! "Yeah, Summer is hard..." 19:36 - eric just has to find his sock, he'll just be a second 19:38 - santaland lmao 20:52 - what do you wanna play? "SUMMER!" let's do cowboy dan. sure. 20:57 - 27:47 - Cowboy Dan 27:51 - 32:04 - Breakthrough - "SUMMER!!" edition - 27:56 "i have no idea" "summer!" - 28:12 "I GOT..." - 30:57 I was inverted, I mean converted, I mean I don't understand!!! 32:04 - 34:15 - Breathrough - Adlib jam time baby 34:27 - what do we wanna play? did he say positive negative? that's what I heard! 35:41 - 43:10 - Whenever I Breathe Out, You Breathe In (Positive / Negative) 43:31 - Isaac receives a song request 43:59 - Yall remember how to play talking shit about a pretty sunset? YES play THAT SONG. We didn't learn it... 44:42 - 47:20 - Custom Concern - "DUKES UP!" edition - 46:09 Message read on... 47:28 - "All nite diner!" 48:00 - I kinda don't wanna play All Nite Diner. Dirty fingernails... it would be fun for us but not for them.... Let's play Truckers Atlas 48:17 - 59:19 - Truckers Atlas - 55:57 I'm just a box in a cage... 59:20 - end - Tundra / Desert

Isaac and the boys did it all on their own. Through hard work...1997 no facebook...no cell phones in everyone's hand. Touring and word of mouth. So glad I heard the rumors of this baddass band coming to town. They were kids but rocked like gods.

Yeah, you’re absolutely right. I saw Modest Mouse 6-8 times between This is a Long Drive and the Moon and Antarctica. I kinda lost interest after that. I saw them the first time in a basement in Philly with Blonde Redhead and the person working the door may or may not have been smoking crack. I was either a Sophomore or Junior in high school. I bought the Life of Arctic Sounds/Medication 7” on white vinyl. I also saw them at the Pontiac Grille on South Street, Electric Factory (w/the Shins and Black Heart Procession who were incredible), Trocadero, and the Chameleon Club in Lancaster. Great times. They jammed a lot and Jeremiah Green was absolutely one of the best drummers I ever saw, still to this day.

One of the things I love about early Modest Mouse is that they jammed a lot. Listening to tracks like Truckers Atlas, Doing The Cockroach etc... they used to have cool sections where the band just improvised and they do the same in here. Most of their best songs probably came from jam sessions and you can tell in how immediate and raw they sounded. They were as pure as it gets.

Insane that he had melodies and lines floating around in his head, like "box in a cage", that didn't make it into the form of a song until a decade later. Isaac has written some incredible songs.

came back to this one after hearing the new songs and being so underwhelmed i had to make sure i wasn’t rose colored glasses misremembering how great they used to be. in the end they were in touch with something primal and profound then and you can’t be sad that’s no longer the case but just be grateful for when they were.
