I kinda get his point though. For a guy who's been in a successful touring band with fair variety of sound throughout his career it only makes sense that he's accumulated a lot of gear. When he talks about the gear though he clearly doesn't have a deep understanding for each device, has just sorta stumbled upon sounds he likes. At 14:26 when he talks about "pentatonic scales" he must mean something else. I think he must mean microtonal scales? Because pentatonic scales are easily playable on a normal guitar and there's no reason you'd need a custom guitar or a fretless guitar to play them.

I've been a fan of Isaac's bands since I was a teenager. So almost 20 years now. I still regularly listen to his music (and play it as a guitar player of two decades who also just picked up drums 8 years ago). I actually just learned the main Truckers Atlas drum groove and have been playing it constantly lol. Jeremiah's playing was a huge reason why I also picked up drums after playing guitar most my life. So between Isaac and Jeremiah I'd say there's a lot of inspiration to go around. I also build tube amps and guitar pedals as well as restore and repair them (and old tube radio receivers when I get the opportunity) so I absolutely get the pedal obsession. I'm one of those guys who's likely to start a pedal company, build some stuff that I put all my heart into, then go bankrupt and have all my pedals end up in the "we gotta charge you something" box lol.

After I learned his version I watched some covers and looked up some tabs and refined it from there. It's such a a fun groove to play. But learning it showed me just how much work my left foot needs. Im working on keeping time on my left foot now like Jeremiah did which will help with those off beat accents. Anyways I hope you're able to learn it quickly cause it really is such sick groove.

I think about Isaac Brock all the time because of that one interview where he said the band gets drunk and runs over dogs in the van, then years later in another interview he said someone once wrote article an saying the band gets drunk and runs over dogs in the van. It’s just such a funny weird time thing, the way this one story bridged between the first interview (early in their career) and the second (after they became popular) and the fact that the article actually wasn’t making it up but rather was referring to an interview that even Isaac had long forgotten-and probably he was drunk anyway-is for some reason really funny to me. Any time I hear about vehicles striking dogs, which is surprisingly often because I live in a place where very little happens except for the dogs and cars stuff.

I love MM and always wondered about their songwriting process. After watching Isaac explain everything in this video, I think I understand!

Isaac has got more friendly and kind with age. He seems a good point in his life.

I love songs that have clever and meaningful lyrics and I love Modest Mouse. I never knew much about him other than he writes some wickedly clever lyrics and music. It's nice to know he seems like a decent guy and is probably a lot of fun to work with. He's made some of the most original music I've heard in the five decades I've been around. Thank you Isaac.
