'India-Greece ties are mutually beneficial, in sync with geoeconomic and geo-strategic currants, with a strong mooring in civilisational links. The vast unexplored potential beckons,' says Swasti Rao, Associate Fellow, Europe and Eurasia Center, at the Manohar Parrikar Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses.

There are some series by ThePrint such as political analyses by Swasti and economics by Sharad that I listen to regularly. The first thing I do once I've settled down at home and going through messages is look if any videos are uploaded by these and listen to them as podcasts🌟

Alexander the Great left a 400 years long Indo Bactrian kingdom and Indo Greek kingdom which also profoundly spread Greek civilization into Asia and the Indian subcontinent. For example. Greek astronomy is even by ancient Indians regarded as unmatched by Indian accounts, and secondly aside of many other profound influences, the very first buddhas sculptures in artform were first made by the Greeks, who had already centuries of deifying their gods into human form in the most unmachted levels of arts the world has ever seen in the forms of sculptures, arts, jewelry, stone cutting and other forms of arts. You can search for even Greek Buddha arts. there countless sources on the internet. So for the small group of Greeks out of Alexanders massive empire who established the Greek kingdoms in what is now Afghanistan, parts of Pakistan/India, is only one of Greeces centers of civilization. Seleucid, Ptolemy and others had other parts of Alexanders empire that became highly successful. Ptolemy is such an example also.

@jbe-oe9pt following is an excerpt from Wikipedia entry for “Buddhism and Democracy”. Buddhism 2500 years ago picked up a lot of good things from ancient India, voting in Buddhist monasteries is probably the longest form of democratic exercise. Here is the excerpt: “Links between the dharma and democracy have intrigued scholars for generations. Tribes like the Buddha’s could be found everywhere in the 6th century BCE, but the Shakyas stand out because their form of government strikingly resembles that of ancient Athens. According to Buddhist sources, the Shakya republic was governed from its capital, Kapilavasthu, by an assembly (the parishad) of five hundred citizens. Though not as large as the Athenian assembly (with its quorum of six thousand for major decisions), the Shakyan legislature needed an officer to manage the proceedings and so elected a raja, something like our Speaker of the House”

@jbe-oe9pt I came across this concept of Mahajanapadas from the Buddhist Pali Canon that comes from the period. You could search for books on that topic but neither western nor Indian historians have written much. Unfortunately India’s history was written down only during imperial British period.

I don't want to argue on wether the ideas of democracy rooted in India or not.. did the definition of democracy define how india function before 75 years? How could it? There was no concept of India before that!

If you’re talking about India as a civilization, it has been there for a long time. It is evident if you do a simple Google search or look up history on Wikipedia. If you’re talking about current geographical entity with borders and a constitution, it was adopted in 1950 after independence from colonial British Raj. There’s a reason it’s called ‘independence’ and not birth of a nation. Had there not been a concept of India, there wouldn’t be any references to those before 1947 but that’s not the case.
