As one of China's immediate major neighbours as well as one of Asia's historical victims (just like China) of the past several hundred years of colonial invasions, India should shake off its obsession with the law of the jungle which pushes for "Winner takes all" in its international interactions. It should seriously consider China's offer for harmonious win-win cooperations, to take the place of unnecessary confrontations & conflicts solely because of its pride & prejudice, & its hate caused by the shame of its comprehensive loss in the merely one month long & trifling border war to China 60 years ago. When compared to the 200 years of humiliation & looting at it by its ex-colonial master, its short quarrel with China should have been taken as just peanuts. China has always been a good peaceful neighbour of India for thousands of years & the border dispute was/is only a remnant problem left to these two victim countries, by the British colonial invasions. Whenever there is a dispute between two nations, each side will surely have its own grounds to challenge the other side. The dispute will last forever if any one side keeps on being over emotional & refuses to look seriously at the hard facts, the real needs, & the probably promised bright future for the two countries after a pragmatic & amicable settlement is achieved. There are too much hype & too many unrealistic dreams meanwhile, partly because of political reason being put in front of other more practical reasons, on overnight successes in modernization in India. Yes, it produces top CEOs in international enterprises & it has a population greater than China's. It is prosperous in IT & medicine manufacturing industries. However, these will not be good enough to make India strong & healthy because India is a big country which needs diversified & balanced industries with self-sufficiencies in multiple fields for proper growth of the country & alleviating disparity within its population. Also, its known favourable or strong workforce percentage in comparison to its big population is very small. Most Indian civilians are not sufficiently educated nor brought up to provide the required work force for manufacturing industries. I am also of the view that satisfactory infrastructures in India such as those for transportation, water, electricity & other fuels, etc. are still wanting as a whole. India has to put its head down to work its basics right before making any big leaps in its dream-industrialization. Meanwhile, it relies too much on imports of manufactured parts & goods for its development of local manufacturing industry. My view is that India to catch up with China anytime soon is more of a wistful thought than anything which may be fast-tracked into reality. If India is wise enough, China offers the best prospect for it to industrialize & modernize the whole country & bring it to first class level in the world. India needs China's helps in many aspects such as building infrastructures, developing its clean energy industry, making use of China's leading technological advances such as 5G & over, expanding its world trades, etc. In return, China gets another good neighbour which it can work happily with for win-win businesses & cooperations. Small border disputes should never hinder the big picture of country relations for mutually beneficial developments & prosperities.

According to the 2023 Global Hunger Index, India is ranked 111th out of 125 countries with a score of 28.7, while Pakistan is ranked 102nd in the index, with a score of 26.6. The Global Hunger Index also states that India has the highest rate of child malnutrition in the world, namely 18.7 percent, which reflects acute malnutrition. With a score of 28.7 on the Global Hunger Index-2023, India has serious hunger levels. @Michael-vw8vp Жыл бұрын
@@srishtichauhan1721 India was ranked 111th among 125 countries in the Global Hunger Index report released by two European institutions on October 12, 2023. India slipped four positions compared to last year. Countries ranked lower than India are Timor-Leste, Mozambique, Afghanistan, Haiti, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Chad, Niger, Lesotho, Democratic Republic of Congo, Yemen, Madagascar, Central African Republic, South Sudan, Burundi and Somalia. All these countries, of which India is barely better than, are countries with very small economies compared to India. Every country assessed, apart from these countries, had better results than India. India is among a group of 40 countries where the scale of global hunger is termed 'serious'. India's overall GHI score, as per the current report is 28.7. This score calculation is carried out on a 100 point scale. The higher the score, the worse the country's performance. As usual, the irrational Indian government has also rejected this report this year, as it has done before. And India is the only country that rejects the GHI report. By issuing a statement on October 12, the Indian government called the report's methodology flawed, and expressed concerns about the choice of four parameters used. The Indian government said the survey was conducted via telephone calls. Even though the GHI institution has explained that the PoU was achieved, not only through opinion polls conducted by telephone, as stated by the Indian government, but was based on several other fundamental parameters. “This takes into account the average per capita food availability obtained through a carefully prepared food balance. The food balance is primarily based on data officially reported by member countries, including India [Emphasis supply],” said Miriam Wiemers, senior policy advisor at Welthungerhilfe, one of the NGOs that produced the report. The Indian government also made bizarre and irrational claims: “There is virtually no evidence that the fourth indicator, namely child mortality, is caused by hunger,” the government said. However, there is a lot of evidence to show that hunger does cause death in children in many ways. “Children who are malnourished, especially those with severe acute malnutrition, have a higher risk of death from common childhood diseases such as diarrhea, pneumonia and malaria. Nutrition-related factors contribute to around 45% of deaths in children under 5 years of age," said the World Health Organization (WHO). “The Global Hunger Index methodology has long been established and tested. "We greatly appreciate the quality of the data and analysis available to us as well as the constructive proposals to improve it," he added. Moreover, the GHI report is not the only report that shows India's poor performance in the field of nutrition. SOFI Reports has done this consistently over time. The SOFI-2023 report shows that 74.1% of India's population cannot afford healthy food. Only countries like Nepal, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Niger, Burkina-Faso, Ghana, Liberia, Guinea and Guinea Bissau have a higher population than India who cannot afford healthy food.

@@Michael-vw8vp Being an economist and someone who has deep dived into methodological aspects of these faulty indices, I know all the excerpts from the GHI report that you have posted here. My point is simply to read papers from the research community to understand the problems these indices are plagued with. This is when India ran the World' s largest food security program since COVID-19 to provide free foodgrains to 810 million Indians monthly. @hanooi7450 Жыл бұрын
Not according to him. Jayant said it takes 1000 years to change the culture of a country. India's problem isn't just the leaders, it is the people are irrational and superstitious. So if each Jayant rules for 20 years, you would need 50 Jayants, one after another.

Mr Jayants doesn't understand the economic structure between china and India.? Maybe , but he is not free to speak his mind in India. You can be killed, unless you are a somebody
@multiplierfx6429 Жыл бұрын
Not at all. Jayant is a libertarian who thinks western neoliberal economy with minimal government intervention is the best. This is precisely what has made western economies stagnant and are now even regressing. Developing countries should follow China's path where a strong government invests heavily in infrastructure and protect its domestic industries with subsidies, import tariffs and strict capital controls. THAT is the proven recipe for success. Do you know which countries also applied this recipe? US, Germany and Japan before World War 1.

Descended centuries ago, the Chinese has a different perspective viewing investment in infrastructure a)as another way of preserving wealth for people’s saving, and b)as a low-profit or even non-profit project itself but is the right vehicle to boost business along with it. This explains why government, rather than capital, must take lead doing infrastructure project. The Chinese applies the same perspective and logic doing overseas engaging BRI with foreign countries, and we can witness the GDP growth of all countries hosted infrastructure building project under BRI.

Jayant is completely wrong when he says that China has 'overspent' on infrastructure. This kind of thinking is entirely Western, where infrastructure is seen as a cost and a burden. The Chinese see infrastructure as a service provided to the people, so there is a fundamental disconnect when Westerners assess Chinese infrastructure development. This goes all the way back to The Great Wall and the (first) Grand Canal - massive infrastructure that provided security and economic growth to China for centuries, and is a basic concept that sits in the mind of every Chinese person. The Chinese also clearly understand that the initial capital cost of infrastructure is very high compared to ongoing maintenance and operation. China actually believes they need far more infrastructure, because they expect to derive lasting benefit for decades or even centuries to come. Thus, the more they build, the better life will be for themselves, their children, grandchildren, and future descendants. China has stated the intent to expand their world-leading High Speed Rail network from the current 40,000+ km to 70,000+ km (same length as the US Interstate highway system), fully connecting China, because they see the benefit of national HSR service, and how the network effect makes it even stronger as more and more people and places are connected. Same with solar, previously hydro, next nuclear power generation along with High Voltage power transmission and energy storage - China will have energy security for decades, if not centuries. Or their ongoing project to green the desert, converting lifeless dunes into thriving forest, cutting dust pollution and improving the environment. Westerners aren't so forward thinking to sustain this sort of change for years, decades, centuries, so they don't understand it. They only see today's high capital cost, blind to tomorrow's tremendous value for low operating & maintenance cost.

Jayant is a far right libertarian ideologue connected to the Von Mises Institute and lives in the US. He only sees the market part but ignores the socialist part in China's model. His views are also seeped in that classic Western neoliberal agenda of wanting China to phase out state-directed planning, slowly erode production as the basis of their economy, de-industralize and transition somewhat to a service economy precisely like what has happened to the Western economies. Why? so that finance capitalists like him with his investor portfolio can swoop in. Since infrastructure serves public need and therefore an industrial base as opposed to profits for a few, that's why he talks in a derogatory manner about government spending on infrastructure. So Take his views with a grain of salt. You are also correct about how it is important for the state like the Chinese state to direct capital flow to make sure it serves the people. It's only venture or vulture capitalists in the West that want the 'market' to solve things because there is a rich parasitic class in the very same West of capitalists who want profits (to which Jayant as a 'junior mining' investor also wants to have a share of) rather than the state using the value chains to actually improve people's lives. Jayant actually doesn't actually like China, respect maybe but not like. He's just a vulture capitalist wanting to get speculative profits from China's markets and put that into his investment portfolio. Try instead some Western commentators on China, Ben Norton and Cyrus Janssen. They are some of my fav since they have much better economic analysis.

@@ZweiZwolf Completely agree on the building of infrastructure. I look at infrastructure as the lubricant that allows the Chinese economy to function efficiently. The West only worries about the next quarter's results. Long term thinking is non existent in the West.

So funny! At the BRICS meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, President Cyril Ramaphosa had personally been on the tarmac to greet Chinese President Xi Jinping when he arrived. In contrast, a junior cabinet minister was sent to receive the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. So Prime Minister Narendra Modi “refused” to leave his aircraft until the African government send a more senior official to welcome him to the country. Ultimately, deputy president Paul Mashatile left an event held for Xi and proceeded to receive Modi so he would come down off his airplane.

In my opinion, the mindset of the Indian people must be molded from birth. Be humble, conscientious, hardworking, honourable, thinking for the greater good of his/her community, treat others equally and be polite (in no particular order). There are Indians who have the above qualities but not many.

Indian society is not homogenous, it is fragmented into several endogamous groups based on - caste, ethnicity, religion and region. Quality basic necessities such as housing, healthcare,education or even dignified work is very low in proportion to its population. There is a constant struggle for survival and social mobility. Top 1 % holds about 41% and top 10% have 77% of the total wealth. 74% of Indians don’t get nutritious food. To get ahead you need connections with people already in power. Hard work doesn’t work for most people. All those traits you mentioned seems nice but can’t be imbibed in current socio-economic situation. Politics of country has taken a right turn with increasing jingoism and communalism to add to the woes. False pride about this nations supposedly glorious past, its Hindu identity and hatred towards ‘the other’- Muslims, Leftist, rational progressive people etc is working good enough to pacify the masses. If you speak against the govt. - terror charges can be framed easily if you are Muslim, or if you are an activist, you can be put under preventive detention for years, again without any solid evidence.
