PM Modi simply visited Lakshadweep and promoted its tourism. He didn't say anything about Maldives. It was some Indians who compared the two. This could have been a social media spat between people of two nations However, some ministers of Maldives made derogatory comments not just against our PM but also Indians and India. No self-respecting country would tolerate that and the aftermath that followed was simply spontaneous. It is Maldives that has much more to lose in this entire fiasco. If anything, Lakshadweep (i.e. India) that gained a lot.

I have been to Maldives once and had a relative who was teaching for few years in their educational institution. Main issue in Maldives is Islamic radicalisation, back in 2015-2016 when ISIS were on its peak, highest number of ISIS terrorists who joined from Asia per capita were from Maldives. My relative who was teaching there decided to come back to India in 2019 when contract ended as people started hating on Hindus there openly. There are hardly any Hindus(all workers from India, Nepal, Fiji). China has only exploited this by funding the most radical party that will push out India. Only thing Maldivians forget is that everything they eat comes from India. They even stopped fishing(traditional occupation of Maldivian) because it was against being a "good Muslim". They import even fish from India!

Being an indian,i can say there is no such thing like isolation. We can see this situation like Pakistan were never an india ally and there is no place of china,because of Himalayas region. In Bangladesh and bhutan there is pro india gov. Yes, srilanka and Maldives is concern,but trust me china cann't make influence more than india in indian Ocean. And recently in mayor's election, current party of Maldives has lost his election. And we can't ignore the influence of indian community in Maldives, all doctors and hospitals are mainly indian or are from india. Maldives's biggest hospital is indira gandhi hospital. So it's hard for Maldives to completely ignore india. And beyond this afganistan has a big soft corner for indians and indian gov. Iran has cabahar port and iran can't ignore india. I think there are some misconception regarding the Maldives issue. The chronology is as follows - 1. Modi just visited Lakshdweep. 2. Derogatory tweets done by Ministers of Maldives. 3. Indian Public replied back. PM Office never made any statement regarding Maldives while all this issue was going on. Only the Ambassador of Maldives was summoned by the foreign office. No public statement regarding Maldives issue from Foreign Office also. Thus, on the Governmental level there is NO response either positive or Negative therefore, the reaction by the people of India can not be taken as the Official stance of Indian Government over Maldives issue. Now, regarding India getting isolated - just remember in international relations there are no permanent enemies just permanent interests. All countries which shares border with other countries have conflicts. China has conflict with almost all its neighbors except for Pakistan and Russia. Also, China is a friend of Pakistan for its own strategic interest, whereas, Pakistan's government and it's Army are cozy with China because of their own personal interests and the kickbacks from Chinese loans and Projects. It's not that India is getting isolated, India is managing and balancing it's relationships with other nations of the world whereas, I can't say the same for Pakistan. Our foreign policy is free from external influence therefore we can have relationships with Iran, Russia and USA at the same time, whereas Pakistan do not have the same freedom. It's not that we are getting isolated, it's Pakistan losing it's interests due to the corrupt Govt. and Army.

Well , I don’t think india is getting that much isolated . For instance , india has been sending aids to the Indian technical team in Afghanistan thereby making a quiet good approach of not recognising taliban but winning hearts of Afghanis . India and China may be shown as enimies but they have 4 times the trade when compared to their "forever friend" Pakistan. Same with Sri-Lanka, Nepal, Mynanmar and Maldives. Pakistan is an unfortunate case and religious extremism is the only problem in my opinion which has build a big wall between brothers and sisters in both countries. Mr. Khans point of isolation of India is completely wrong. Your comparison of Pakistan's isolation & India's isolation is also completely wrong. Pakistan's foreign policy & policy towards neighborhood is irrespective of any government change is same. Pakistan's policy is mostly driven by USA or China. India is a part of power game with China in Asia & by 2028 will be 3rd largest economy in the world. As a part of power game, few times India wins in some countries by having Pro India government & few times looses. China has issues with all its neighbours in Pacific Ocean. But still eyeing in Indian Ocean. Just like USA & Russia fighting for supremacy, India & China also fighting. When India is trying to be super power, all these are part of the game. But one thing finally...... Modiji he to mumkin he....that's what India beleives.

Firstly, It will take a long time for Lakshadweep to match the level of Maldives. Yes, Lakshadweep has a lot of potential as I have been there. The beaches and the water are the best in the world. But a lot of Infrastructure is needed to handle tourism at Lakshadweep. Secondly, Yes we are being isolated but one has to remember that Indian foreign policy has always been of non-alignment and not to be as aggressive as China. India has always posed itself as a helping hand towards its neighbours as well at the international level. All the neighbours might be friendly with China right now but one has to understand that at some point some of these nations have realized that being dependent on China might harm them. This includes the recent economic collapse in Sri Lanka and Pakistan. The way I see it, India is being very diplomatic right now. It's being neutral with everyone, from the US to the EU to Russia to the Maldives and that even includes Pakistan. If you look at India's current foreign policy narrative, it's like "If we want something (from any country and in business terms) we will get it". Recent examples of it are Russian Oil, the Port at Iran, the Weapons deal, and Nuclear and Space technology from the US. So one cannot predict India's next move at the world level. I would not say it has isolated itself but instead, it is saying I am too big to be bothered by small nations. I guess that's the right way to look at it.

Coming to your question about India's Isolation, it's not isolated, but for sure Pakisthan is isolated not only by its neighbors but also by other Islamic nations. During the Cold War, few countries and their citizens were with the US and few with the USSR, but in the present only ruling governments taking stands to be with India or China, only because of corruption. China does debt traps and India takes out of traps. So those who think of welfare associated with India and who think of corruption go with China. Examples are Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Maldives. Coming to Bangladesh west tried a lot to interfere in its election to bring the BNP to power, but again Haseen came to power and was pro-India. Pakisthan & Maynmar technically are under military leadership. Recently PTI tried to do an online fundraising program but the Pakistan Military stopped the Internet all over to stop this. Once these two countries come out of military rule, then let's talk about these. At Last China, Indians never considered it as our neghbour because our northern neighbor is Tibet like Kashmir is part of India and remains.

Bangladesh supports India in Maldives issue Sri Lanka current government are in India favour they want visa free travel in South Asia . Afghanistan is closer to India than Pakistan. Inda support Iran in Pakistan Iran missile strikes . So I think 🤔 India is not that isolated in the neighbourhood.
