@@OverlandEngineer And that's what's the most impressive. You've make some ingenious mods in really creative locations. I think that's why I love your channel so much. You show that with the right tools and endless patience, most of us can do jobs on our trucks that would cost thousands. I personally really appreciate the effort you put into your work and sharing that with DIY truck lunatics. Nothing ever goes perfectly when you don't have a lift, a shop and a crew. Legit - you are appreciated bro!

For sure! Yeah, I guess I am getting a shifting baseline of seeing these guys with 3 link setups and front bypasses. My MRR system is still really nice. No complaints and all the rubber bushings really keep the maintenance and squeaking to a minimum which is awesome!

Haha yeah I get that... Suspsnsions can get WILD. All my Jeep buddies laughed when I got a new 4R in 2022. They stopped laughing when they couldn't lose me on the trails (mildly modded Jeeps VS a factory plain TRD Pro). I bought the Pro in the height of the stupid "chip shortage" in 2022. Overpaid for it. My tip to all who watch your channel/read this comment, is to get the 5th gen while you still can, nobody wants a 1st gen of a vehicle like this that will have numerous issues that will most likely take years to work out. Also, when getting your glorious 5th gen dinosaur of a truck, don't pay for the Pro like I did. Total waste of money. The "Fox" shocks are garbage, pretty sure they are outsourced in another country and Fox just throws their name on them. Mine failed at around 20k miles. That's an issue you find all over the forums. Hey I'm writing a novel here, pay attention lol.

Your rig has definitely evolved into that next level of all things good and amazing! Have you considered, or did you install a CFS all-aluminum radiator, a DC Power Alternator and Wilwood six-piston front brakes? I remember you doing something with the brakes but I don't remember how that turned out long term. Definitely an impressive rig, Zack. Thanks for taking the time.
@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer 10 ай бұрын
I’ve considered the CSF radiator if I got a SC but not really convinced a SC has enough power. Maybe it’s best for maintained reliability. I’d love a powerbrake kit. I’d also love an upgraded steering rack. Really starting to hit a ceiling though before custom fab really comes out so it’s trying to decide what’s worth it at this point.
@InGratitudeIam
@InGratitudeIam 10 ай бұрын
@@OverlandEngineer Agreed. Guys that I know who did a regear and installed a SC feel that the regear provides the best value and performance enhancement. The thing about the OEM radiator is the use of plastic and small capacity. It was designed for a vehicle that weighs a lot less. Speaking of weight, you NEED an auxiliary fuel tank from LRA. I went with 255/80 R17 (33" pizza cutters) and opted for the Apex kwikLYNX sway bar disconnect. The military uses pizza cutters a lot. I get great traction on snow and gravel. Considering what you did for the wheel wells, you might want to look into trying Mickey Thompson's 34" 255/85 R17 Baja Boss tires as your budget allows. TRD Pro wheels work really well for that application. You might save a little weight and impose less stress on all that steering stuff. That's a real slick setup you have in the back as well. You've got me thinking... I hate it when that happens. :))

Nice build , I have a 2022 Lime Rush TRD Pro , I got a few mods mostly lights, head , tail , fog , ditch , & 40” light bar. I’m currently saving up for a supercharger just because the pros already come well equipped with no need for much upgrades , but your type of build is what got me into 4Runners. I want to get a lift kit but probably won’t until I hit 100k ATLEAST!

Nothing out of the ordinary. I'd say make sure to do transmission drain and fills and change out differential and transfer case fluids often. When the vehicle is new you can do flushes but after a while the broken pieces will plug seal holes so you cannot flush any more and they recommend drain and fills. Cheap fluids are cheap and thats what I do and just change them often. I haven't greased my driveshafts much but doing that now. My LCAs were toasted...had to replace them.Mostly just routine maintenance. I did install an oil catch can.

@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer 2 ай бұрын
Nice, yeah I may consider keeping mine for a swap like that if these kind of turn into a 1st gen in 20 years. Its nice to undercoat but for us in the rust belt, you can keep the outside clean but plenty of moisture and salt get inside the frame and its going to rust inside out.

@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer 10 ай бұрын
Yeah fair point, for certain trips its pretty unnecessary. I typically bring it any time I feel like there is higher risk for recovery. This trip we were also 4wheel and dirt biking so in case we needed to recover a machine it might come in handy. Its an awkward size and weight so mounting up outside the vehicle saves a lot of space as opposed to inside.

While some people might have answers for this, I don’t really have anything rooted in data to indicate a good answer. From a hand waving perspective, I’d say yes it’s worse than stock. I don’t know to what degree…I don’t know if it works the engine harder to where it causes damage…it definitely has me in the full RPM range but that’s not always bad…it’s hard to say. It’s for sure harder on other suspension components, bearings, etc.

@@tuckerhiggins4336 Yeah I mean with the dry weight of a stock 4Runner being about 4750...I've got around 160lbs up front, sliders are another 130lbs, full skid 130lbs, gas tank skid 60lbs, rear bumper 235lbs with extra 40lbs of spare over stock ish...then 200lb tent, thats about 1k. As an Engineer and owner of a 4Runner myself, I’ve been thinking about the impact of lifting and putting larger tires on my SUV. While many owners may mitigate these issues with high-quality aftermarket parts designed for lifted vehicles (like stronger control arms, reinforced suspension components, and upgraded brakes), isn’t it important to consider that a lift generally accelerates wear on a number of parts? How do you minimize the long-term effects? Thanks.
@OverlandEngineer
@OverlandEngineer 4 ай бұрын
Hard question since the wear isn't quantified. It depends on wear and tear and whether the cost to replace warrants the lift. I think many people stay away if they don't do the work themselves because the labor costs can be really high.

I’m not a full time KZbinr with the time off to travel around the country and I also don’t have extra hands to film me wheel. I try to get out when I can but people also appreciate a video a week which takes time. Minnesota is not super great for offroading but I only got most of this armor this year and did not feel super comfortable doing rocky trails without. I honestly typically just enjoy trips rather than film them. Maybe that will change…only so much time and pretty limited time off to go to all the “offroad” trails away from where I live. It’s built for the couple trips I can manage to take.
