A really nice conversion progressing there John! Will be interesting to see the finished article. It's a good looking little shunter and I rather like that shade of green myself :) - Sim

Thanks Sim, it needs matting down at least. Speed reduction is the next job, then cosmetics.

Hi Dave, too impatient in terms of waiting for a quiet time I'm afraid. I hope it looks like a UK shunting engine from one of the Leeds based companies,

Hi John so just watching again.Will fitting one dummy battery slow it down. My one arrived yesterday with a missing tyre.Did you have any luck getting new tyres.
@bikerides

Hi David. I have run it without tyres. I am going to try a drive band that is available as part of a pack of 50 assorted sizes. I looked at Playmobil and other sites but no tyres in stock. Cheers, John

The dummy battery will allow it down but it is a matter of experimentation. Dummy batteries and the diodes that I used will also reduce the pulling power.

Thanks Rob, stage one - I am just playing with it. Looking for odds and ends to detail it with.

Matthew Snowden The main thing is to find the motorised bogie for a good price.and the brass kit is low cost and easy to fold.

Matthew Snowden Hi Matt, sorry, out of sync with my replies! Yes, this is a garden rail scale Playmobil model - not 00 gauge!! I am impressed with your plan to scratch build onto an underground Ernie chassis.

Do you have advice my own locomotive want to star, no light ...
@bikerides
@bikerides 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Aurelien. If you have good batteries and they are making good contact then you should get some light come on when you press the on button on the front (not the pair with transmitter button). If you have no success then I would buy it for spares (and others might as well). I have a couple of these so I can test my transmitter separately on one of the other locomotives. Sorry I can't be of more help. John

Hello John I bought one of these last year and have been following Tom Jennsen’s garden Railway...and still have to start mine so found this very useful! ....regards Fred....ps what track are you using ...
@bikerides

Hi Fred. I run mine on my G scale brass track code 350. A mix of LGB, Aristo craft, Piko. I also run track powered locos. Have fun with your modifications. They are really versatile locomotives. John

can this type of Playmobil locomotive be converted to run from a 9 volt rechargeable battery?
@bikerides
@bikerides 7 жыл бұрын
It has a battery case which will easily take rechargeable 1.5v AA batteries. This is by far the best way. However there would be no problem in wiring in a rechargeable six cell battery pack. Best to just get one and have a go. You would need to make it removable or have a charging socket, charge/run switch and overload cutout. There are blogs about battery conversions of Playmobil, Bachmann Thomas, LGB, and others on Riks Railway Blog.
