Hello and welcome, thanks for stoping by. Today I'm installing the Tundra Rack. Overall, it was a long process dealing with the racks. Before you try to get the stock rack out raise the engine. Raising the engine a little will make it easier to remove and install the rack. Make sure to use your stock rack as a template for lining up the bushings, that will give you a decent starting point. You don't have to grind down the bungs, but it will give you a little more room. Pay attention to the high and low pressure lines, make sure they are not pressing up against the frame. I ended up with a solid shaft that was fabbed using the stock intermediate shaft slpine end and joint. Mine measured in at 13.59 inches overall complete length including the splines and joint. Have a good breakfast, it's going to be a long day. Don't rage quite. Steering feels like butter right now.

Nice install. I put a shortened Land Cruiser 200 in my Fj a while back. That was a lot of work/machining, but was worth the pain I went through. Also for everyone out there that wants to go this route; Tundra rack or Land Cruiser 200. You are going to lose some turning radius, and there is no way around that.
@ClassyTacos
@ClassyTacos Жыл бұрын
I was between the LC 200 or the Tundra rack for a bit. Turning radius is effected. I notice it the most when I pull out of parking spaces.

Yeah I heard the same. Although I “hear” the Tundra rack is a bit less of loss. 🤷‍♂️

If you pull the front diff it’s easy to get the rack in and out.

Ya, lifting the engine a 1/4 inch is much easier than pulling the front diff. Thanks for watching.

Couple questions: 1) What's the diameter of your RCVs? I have 934 axles that I'll have to deal with and I wonder how close they are in size. 2) What's the diameter of the rod on your steering shaft. I planned to use 1" DOM and want to make sure it's not too big. Big thumbs up on the video, I'll probably watch it a dozen times before I tackle the job.
@ClassyTacos
@ClassyTacos Жыл бұрын
Appreciate it man, thank you. The 934 axles are larger on the diff side, 4_lo_pro on IG runs the JDFab axles with the tundra rack on a 2nd gen. I have his IG link in the description of the video. He will be able to answer your questions. I believe he had to move the rack forward a little. The shaft is 3/4 inch. One inch is big for that spot. Thanks for watching

Very nice brother. Thanks for this! Planning on doing this to my 4th Gen 4Runner platform. Curious besides attempting to lock the steering wheel was or is there a way to line up the intermediate shaft so the steering wheel stays somewhat straight? How did your alignment go after getting it done? Thanks again! 🙏🤙
@ClassyTacos
@ClassyTacos Жыл бұрын
It was a bit of both of us. I locked the steering in with the tires straight. There is a little movement on the steering wheel to help align the intermediate shaft. Once it was close it went to the alignment shop they did the rest. Thanks for watching.

Being that you are stock width, is the mod’d tundra rack machined to accept the stock Inner/ Outter TieRods? I’m in contact w/ basikbiker and want to make this work for stock width as well. Thanks 🤙🏼

@ClassyTacos

So far it's been great. The only issue is the steering radius is less. The tires turn less sharp, if that makes sense. I notice it the most in parking lots when pulling out of spots as I pull in backwards. Thanks for watching.

I just watched your video. Do you have to modify the tundra steering rack or can you take a stock tundra steering rack and put it in a Tacoma? I have a 2019 Tacoma with 33s and I feel like I get a lot of feedback from the tires into the steering system. I was looking to upgrade. Just curious if I can just bolt one in, or does it have to be modified and if I can bolt up a stock tundra steering rack? What year tundra should I get one out of?
@ClassyTacos

No, it takes a ton of modification to the rack. THere is a vid floating around of what it takes.

I'm extremely interested in installing one of these mostly due to the rubber bushing in mine failing so quick. I replaced my entire rack about 5 years ago and now my alignment is always jacked up because of the bushing being weak again. My question is how is the steering feel? Does it beat you considering you replaced the rubber bushing with metal.
@ClassyTacos
@ClassyTacos 10 ай бұрын
My steering feels great, smooth as butter. The only issue I have is the loss of steering radius. It's noticeable in parking lots, tight spaces and when making U turns. I don't notice it every day, but it's there. Have to give it up for strength. Thanks for watching.
