The biggest benefit of this to me, is when you hit someone in the eyes at 50 yards. They get legitimately confused. They react like you are using a Surefire at 10 feet. They think you are way closer than you are. Huge tactical advantage.

I think with the rechargeable battery package you get with the modlights, it’s competitive with the Surefires. I also really like how the body size reduction doesn’t affect output. My home defense gun has a PLHv2 on it and it’s a killer all around light. A great amount of candela but with good flood as well. Great review mike.

Love the PLHV2. A couple things to consider for the price: modlite offers a discount for certain groups like first responders and the price is including the 18650/18350 batteries x2 and the nitecore charge which together are $70 if you bought separately. When you think about it that way, it becomes easier to accept the price versus a SF 600 series light.

One thing that may make focused-beam weapon lights pretty pointless is that you cant zero them to your rifle.. If the beam is in one spot but your zero is 30 feet to the left at that distance, its pointless and counter productive to have a ton of throw instead of a more flood light. Not sure if this is actually valid or entirely applicable since I guess the beam does open up with distance though.
@grif54472 жыл бұрын
Actually just did this calculation for IR illuminator beam spread but I imagine the same thing would apply with white light. I know a 2 degree beam will spread to a cone with a 21 foot radius at 400 yards. Mk262 out of an 11.5 inch will have an absolute drop of 6 feet and a wind drift of just under 2 feet in a 10 mph crosswind at 400 yards. I imagine the OKW has more spread than that and probably won't be truly useful at that range anyway. So assuming your rail is reasonably parallel to your barrel, the light isn't being blocked excessively by a barrel or suppressor, you are shooting a reasonable setup for mid range and not shooting next to a tornado you should be okay out to the useable range of the light beam.

@Hopeless my issue with the OWL is the weight. It’s a brick. You throw a can and OWL on the end of a lightweight build and you have a very unbalanced rifle. I asked them if they had considered a light weight version of the OWL. They have no plans. The Modlite weighs like 4oz with head, clicky tail cap and battery. That’s a big difference from the OWLs 11oz. Especially when you add a 16-20oz can also.
@anthonywood48943 жыл бұрын
@Hopeless I didn’t even think about the REIN. That seems to be a good light but I have no experience with them. I’ve handled the Modlite. When I hear Cloud Defense I always think OWL. I want to like the designs and if they cut the weight in half it would be a great light with its built in controls. As it stands I just can’t. I see folks put them on short guns and it just ruins the whole gun knowing how heavy it is. Shoot straight brother.
