Other videos skip these tips that I wanted to share! The Optical fiber loop can bypass any component and not affect the overall optical fiber network. When a node in the MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) fails , it also can help diagnose and find the fault point.
BMW SOS FIX No Audio Error Fix CHEAP
BMW’s are great vehicles, I absolutely love them. I’ve owned several models, all the way back to my first BMW, my beloved, estoril blue E36 M3:

I currently drive a 2006 BMW 650i, and the car has treated me great over the years (though she is getting old now). With all cars, you need to keep up on the maintenance, and from time to time parts fail. I try and do all of the repairs and maintenance myself. However, every once in a while a problem arises requiring research on the various BMW forums to figure out a better solution than bringing it to the stealership. The BMW SOS fix just so happens to be exactly one of those problems. It is also worth mentioning that Audi, VW, and Porsche are susceptible to the very same issues.
In this case we have already done the research for you. We even took the time to make a KZbin video illustrating the problem and solution (skip to the bottom). However, If you want to know more about the problem and solution, keep reading!
The problem:
BMWs utilize a fiber optic network called the MOST (Media Oriented Systems Transport) network. It’s based on fiber-optic technology. Although it is a very fast and efficient networking technology, it’s susceptible to breakdown if any one component in the chain goes bad. Think of it like a string of Christmas lights, if one light goes bad, the entire sting does not function. In our case if one component in the most network goes bad, the SOS light illuminates on your dashboard, and audio output will to cease to function from any device on the same network. Boom, no Sound.

The Solution:
Lucky for us it is almost always the same component that fails in the BMW MOST loop, the satellite receiver. It is always the same part used to bypass a defective component: A fiber-optic MOST bypass adapter.
However, there is another problem! The typical fiber-optic MOST bypass typically found on the Internet cannot be used without user modification. Consequently, these units need to be carefully trimmed by the consumer after receiving them to make it compatible with the BMW male MOST adapter disconnected from the satellite radio receiver. Thankfully, they are now available pre-trimmed on Amazon so you can literally install it in seconds right out-of-the-box. Here is the link to the pre-trimmed part if you want to get right to the BMW SOS fix!
In our experience 90% of the time it winds up being a defective satellite receiver in older BMW’s. In other words, If you are not into listening to Satellite Radio, there’s no need to buy a new, expensive (around $1000 from the dealer) satellite receiver. Once we bypass the defective receiver with the adapter it will be grayed out in your menu as an audio input selection, and everything else will be back to normal!

I have to admit it, I was a bit skeptical about this video. Bought my 08 650i 70,000 miles and clean title from a used car dealership that is well respected spring 2024. First week, issues with audio in car ???? Called dealership & talked to an audio specialist. Ok I'll speed it up after bringing the car back to dealership and they say they replaced blue tooth module. Got car back & same b/s. So thank God for tutorials like this. There is absolutely no use for the male version when it comes to bypassing. The best option is to get the pre trimmed female version because can bypass any component

The solution for me (for BMW M4 2015) was: I took the panel off located located underneath the drivers dash & steering wheel (above the brake & accelerator pedals). There was a loose plug (small flat white plug) which pops into a small white long plastic box, and I made sure the smaller wire (with tiny red plug) was plugged into what looks like a small speaker. The SOS Fault warning code disappeared right away and hasn't come back. Just in case it helps any other viewers.

@@mo_nstroYup. It’ll be the panel under the drivers seat, think of it as a glovebox, just on the drivers side. But if you have an E90, it’ll be T15 or a T20 screw tip, 3 screws

Ok, I had the exact same issue and by far this is the best explained video. Only minor comment, meaning if you want to still have your trunk intact looking nice is that you have to unscrew the trunk covers, which took me exactly 25 minutes. So thanks and you saved me tons of cash at the 'Stealership' whereas they told me I need a new radio (that I first bought with labor and all installed for USD 560), and which after 2 days stopped working. Based on my own due diligence, it's definitely the satellite radio (SOS) which caused by breaking the SOS loop (that's a BMW service you can pay for in the USA and Europe when having BMA only car issues). Unfortunately this entire system is connected with sound (BMW chimes, car stereo, etc) through that stupid insane Satellite. Hope this helps! Thanks again

I recently watched your video, I have a 07 335i coupe. I already got the optical bypass, and did the procedure as yourself. But nothing. The only sound the car has is when I insert the key, the "beep" sound. Before putting the optical, the sos signal did not appeared on the dashboard. Once putting the bypass, the signal came of no sos, but still no sound at all. Any tip.

Please can anybody help?! - I own a BMW X£ - 2015 model....The 'SOS system failure' yellow light came on a few weeks ago...since then i have paid 3 or 4 times to have it switched OFF at diff' garages...but very soon, it came back ON again....once it went OFF by itself the next day, but a couple of days later, it was back ON....I tried to bypass with a Loop connector, but what i thought was the satellite box, wasn't - i cant find it anywhere, i have looked, bit i cant find it!....and yet the SOS button to make the emergency call..still works!!...any help out there would be appreciated, i'm sick of paying garages....none of them seem to know why it happens, and BMW just tell me they will switch it off in the same way...so i'm stuck! 'HELP'PPPP! - :( ... UPDATE! ... On close inspection i noticed the Battery plug was not fully pushed in to the Box...now the SOS System failure light has gone out!....'happy days'!

On a 2015 you do not have separate components like the 2006 to 2010 BMWs you have a consolidated component called a communications box. It generally needs to be replaced to get rid of the light

@@ModsAndProjects - 'UPDATE' - Thanx for your reply, much appreciated - i did a close inspection of the communications Box and noticed that the Battery's were 'taped' to the Box!...So, everytime i drove over a bump etc the battery/s were moving, there was no battery housing cover to secure them, hence the tape....i then found that the battery connector plug was not making a secure connection to the box...i then pushed in the connector plug tightly and then it happend....the Light went out!! .... 'Happy Days'! - :)

It is such a shame that this "well-oiled" machine has the absolute dumbest items breakdown on the car. What bothers me the most is how it disables your other features or the errors take over your display screens. I have never, ever, ever touched this SOS button feature and now I have no radio, can't make any calls, and I can't bypass the error message. I purchased my car in 2010 and you won't believe the number of stupid errors I get from this vehicle. Oh ... Thanks for instructions on how to fix it! Sorry for the rant!!

Hello, first you would need to 100% confirm the satellite radio is in fact malfunctioning, the loop is a great tool for this just to confirm. Worked for 2007 X5 (E70). Had SOS error and only the CD player would work. Bypassed Sat box and all is good now. No Satellite radio now, but I was not using that anyway. Thanks for the video.

It could be another component in the MOST network. The same adapter would be used in troubleshooting (bypassing) other components until you find the one that is causing the error. SOS error can also be caused by a loose or water damaged SOS speaker (there is a dedicated speaker) in the driver side foot well area.

I also have 08' 528i and not only do I get no sound.. and sos light is on...but I can only access the idrive options when the key is on first position (car not on but key in)... Do you think or know why once I turn the car engine on I can not access anything on the idrive... Only the main menu shows up and when I click "menu button " or click right left down or up.. it will not work... No one has mentioned anything about the idrive not working in any of the videos.. however like I mentioned I'm also getting sos light and no sound. Will someone pleasr let me know if they also had that issue with the idrive and if so after the bypass was installed, did that allow not only the sos light to go off, sound to go on, but if the access to idrive while vehicle engine is started was accessable again!? Hello, I was driving my 2008 650i convertible and I heard something zapp,, My SOS light has come on and is doing the same thing you just described, , The mechanic is saying that it's the fm module? Have you heard of this? I can't get anything to work as far as the entertainment. Ugh. He said that something was wet in the trunk and fried the module.

Yeah, those stock adapters need to be trimmed and its a bit of a pain in the ass... so now the link in the description is for-pre-trimmed units so you can start using them without any trimming/modding :) I've head of a few people actually breaking them (and having to order a 2nd unit) when trying to do the trimming!

i have a 2007 bmw 550i, have had this vehicle since Sept 2009. Currently approx 170k miles. I recently spent several thousand dollars to replace the coolant system and other issues. When I took the 550i in, I told BMW dealership something was draining the battery and coolant light continued to come on, with coolant leaking. Their fix was replacing the coolant system, I can provide a copy of exactly what they did, and replacing a Negative Battery Cable for cable cost being $371.69. I am trying to figure out if what has been done already, may have had something to do with SOS issue I have right now. Before the SOS light came on, a few hours before that happened, I was outside and noticed my front left headlamp was on... it was the only thing on, not both headlamps, only the left one. I cranked the car, just to make sure it would start, which it did. A few hours later i was ready to leave work and started my car. That's when the SOS light came on... The car started but absolutely no audio and no i-Drive... I drove it home, parked in the garage. It was late and I didn't have time to deal with it then. I didn't know what it meant, knew it wasn't good but had already worked 13 hrs that day and was done! The next day was just hours away! I have another vehicle, so was able to drive the other vehicle the next day. However, the following day I attempted to start the 550i, but to no avail, the battery was completely dead. Something is still draining the battery. I am thinking what the dealership did, was NOT fix the problem with something draining my battery. I don't listen to satelite radio, do not have a subscription. When i took it in to fix the coolant system and whatever was draining the battery,, I told them the CD Exchanger in the glove box sounded like it was still running when i turned the car off. The battery is fairly new, i can check to see when it was replaced and provided an exact date. Bottom line is, the battery is completely dead, the audio and i-Drive quit working when the SOS light came on but it would still start then and ran good on my way home, that evening.. Now I cannot start it but need to know what you think and what my options are... Thoroughly enjoyed your video. However, I'm thinking the literal thousands I spent within the last month, may be related to my current issue. Your thoughts and help is greatly appreciated. There are several components in the MOST loop. You can use the adapter to use process of elimination to check each one untill you find what is causing the error. Try the Power amp then TCU. Also there is a small dedicated SOS speaker under the driver side footwell, it comes loose or is damaged it can also cause the error.

@@stevenfrith5454 It could be the CCC, OBD two scanner does not show codes relating to the multimedia system/SOS air unfortunately. If you buy the part linked in the description above it comes with full support and troubleshooting regardless of the issue and seller will help you to find the parts necessary if it's not a loop related issue at the cheapest cost possible without coding requirements.

Bear in mind that this isn't the be all, end all SOS fix. I just picked up a 2010 650i for short $$ that had a several electrical issues going on. Since the radio works, but the bluetooth won't connect, the TCU unit was a fault. You want to make sure, and pin these components out separately, before diving in.

The particular loop in the description of the video above comes with direct customer support to assist you with identifying the exact problem and helping you to decide whether just bypassing it or regaining the functionality is the best course of action. A lot of times people just bypass out something like the satellite radio to get rid of the SOS light or to get there sound back, however, if it is something like Bluetooth that you might want to get the actual functionality back the tech support will guide you to the best course of action in getting it addressed avoiding the crazy prices the dealership would charge. For $14 it’s pretty awesome that you get that level of technical support!

If the nav keeps rebooting in a 2006 you have a bad CCC. You cannot bypass the CCC it needs to be repaired or replaced. Also, you can't just drop in a used eBay CCC, it will need to be coded to your vehicle. BMW charges 1200-1600 you can get it repaired for around 400.

@Brandon Smith All black screen with no sound is 100% a bad CCC (or bad power connection to the CCC). It is possible another, 2nd component is also bad (like the satellite radio receiver) but you need to start with diagnosing the CCC. I have a 2006 BMW 330i E90 without sat radio but have the logic 7 system with nav my system keep rebooting.

If the nav keeps rebooting in a 2006 you have a bad CCC. You cannot bypass the CCC it needs to be repaired or replaced. Also, you can't just drop in a used eBay CCC, it will need to be coded to your vehicle. BMW charges 1200-1600 you can get it repaired for around 400.

My FM radio works, AM will display but only plays static. Phone no longer connects via bluetooth. DVD says not DVD but there is one in the DVD player. Satelite does not work and is grey out. Which component do you think is bad?

Hey, I recently watched this video because I was getting the SOS signal malfunction on my 07 530i bmw and purchased the fiber optic loop and installed it to bypass the satellite radio. And the error code went away but the radio cuts in and out. Any suggestions on what I should check out now?

I had the problem on my X1 F48 2017 model. Assume it’s software have bugs. Tested to call SOS after shows SOS system failure message, get through perfectly, which proves the system NOT failure. Used voice control coincidentally last week, the fault message disappeared dramatically, and didn’t back till today. I rarely use voice control before, have tried to disconnect blue tooth device and reconnect from other youtube video, didn’t work well. Can’t say it’s the solution, but cost nothing and worth a try.

The particular loop in the description of the video above comes with direct customer support to assist you with identifying the exact problem and helping you to decide whether just bypassing it or regaining the functionality is the best course of action. A lot of times people just bypass out something like the satellite radio to get rid of the SOS light or to get there sound back, however, if it is something like Bluetooth that you might want to get the actual functionality back the tech support will guide you to the best course of action in getting it addressed avoiding the crazy prices the dealership would charge. 2007 335i, SoS error message is on. Radio AM/FM is working fine! TCU error is A390 (Emergency antenna fault). There is no door chime sound. What do you think?

Try to bypass the TCU and see if the SOS light goes out, if so you will need to repair the TCU. Do you have Bluetooth?

@@BIMMERZEITT Hmmm.. It really sounds like something funky is going on with your TCU (or its connection to the antennae). You could try bypassing it to see if the SOS light goes away. If it does go away with the TCU bypassed it would indicate you need to have it repaired. Edit: I had a quick look at the e90 Entertainment and Communication document here: www.e90post.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=334282&d=1260829447 It also could be a power or signal connection to the shark fin antenna.. Check all connectivity between the shark-fin and the TCU, then try bypass TCU.

If the Amp, Satellite & Bluetooth module are getting power, the fuse in the back of the head unit is good, speakers are all hooked up, radio is working & completely functional except having no sound. What could it possibly be? I bought a new head unit (300$, had like 70-80k miles when pulled out) Is there something inside the head unit itself that could be the problem to it not delivering sound, chimes, whatever. Before I installed the new head unit, the sound was completely working (jus the display didn’t work). Kinda confused. Any help? (I’m not selling the car, I want to learn the problem than run away from it, dont bother suggesting that)

It could be several things, it could be the CCC, there are a lot of variables involved. Most people get lucky and it just winds up being the satellite receiver, TCU, BT module, MULF etc... But other times it requires further troubleshooting. If you got the loop from the Amazon link in the description they literally work with you one-on-one to figure out exactly what the issue is and get it resolved as cheaply as possible without involving the dealership.

I'm still getting the SOS signal I haven't done to fix yet. But, my passenger side speakers only the highs are off. I still get sound from my driver side, the passenger side I only hear base. However, satellite radio is available when I click on it everything is grayed out on the menu. So does that mean that my satellite radio is failing?

What you are describing sounds like a bad logic 7 power amplifier, or a combination of a power amp on the way out COMBINED with a bad satellite receiver. I would get the adapter to try bypassing the satellite receiver. Once bypassed one of a few things will happen: 1. The SOS light goes out, but the highs/bass issues continue (bad amp, bad sat rec.) 2. SOS light stays on, sound issues continue (bad amp OR bad amp AND bad sat receiver). Either way, I'm pretty sure your amp is on the way out... Best price to fix these is: www.bmwlogicseven.com/

I have an 07' 335i with the SOS error. When it happened before, i was able to unplug the battery and replug and it was fine. But not this time. I recently had the computer replaced and now the battery unplug doesnt work this time. Not sure if this can be helped or not with this solution. Thanks!

Hey, I have a 530i 2007 bmw, I watched the video purchase the item took it to the shop, and still the same problem. I can still hear the ding when I opened the door, but the ding cracks. When I turn the car on the sos comes on the radio cracks and after ten min of driving the Idrive turns off. If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Very helpful and right to the point video! Thanks for the tips! I’ll be ordering one of those cables to address the interesting problem on our 2008 E91 with the basic audio system. The SOS fail is accompanied by a static “ticking” sound. All audio alerts/chimes/music work, it’s just static has been introduced. I pulled the connector off the TCU and noticed the static beats like a metronome to the fiber optic pulses. Any additional insight anyone may have would be appreciated. We swapped amps thinking that could be the culprit, but no joy.

@@ModsAndProjects Yeah its a werid issue but i dont even have a SOS module. Went to some nice guy to get it code out to see if that helped. SOS goes away no error, but i still cant get no Aux Volume to play. When I choose the option external devices it doesnt even select a device ( tried different cables and phones) and it doesnt let me change the volume. Just stuck on zero, was told it could be the combox or the USB/Aux Port itself. What do u think?

Nope you have a bad CCC. Google logic7 CCC repair. Will save you 1000$. Pull it ship it out and have it repaired by him :)

​@@LaGriz95 YEs, that is exactly how it behaves when the CCC is on the way out (or a constant boot sequence loop). Eventually it wont turn on at all. BMW dealership will ony replace (not repair) the unit and will charge between $1000 and $1600. Your best option is to have it repaired by a 3rd party and it will run around $400 for the fix.

Nice engine sound. I have 2006 630i and I don't have that Sat radio option I believe. It is UK version. Does this mean this solution is not for me? In the workshop I was told about a part to be replaced, which I cannot remember its name :-( , but I remember I was told, that part sits in the back seat (under support) and to order it, it needs to be looked first, to take its number. Only with that number a correct part can be ordered. Any hints please?

Not at all several of the other components on the MOST network are prone to failure and can be bypassed with this same cable or the cable can be used as a diagnostic tool to help identify/confirm components that are failing and need to be repaired / replaced.

I have a 2014 bmw 328i and had the sos warning and no audio issue I did this and it worked great but now like 2 months later my key is not being detected and the door won’t lock or unlock from the key fob buttons and have to start by putting the key to the steering wheel took it to BMW and they said they need to repair what I did lol and then see if the tcu is not damaged to then try re programming the car and they quarter me almost like 4k just to do all that I took my car back I don’t have that money to just fix that can anyone help me with ideas on what to do

No, it does not affect gps, GPS is controlled by the ccc/cic depending on the year, basically your head unit. Bypassing a defective component using the loop just removes it from the multimedia Network, that's it

This is way wrong this I beleave is a trick to fuck up your car..If you have X-m radio it’s caused by a refreshing the radio. So you have to take it into bmw and they have to reboot your system for free or if there is a charge XM radio has to cover it. Because that’s what I had to do
