Mike, Truly praiseworthy work. I had already read a lot about the types of pentode and tetrode modulation and about linearization and improvement techniques. Your video is an excellent example of the different plate modulation methods. Truly a contribution to AM builders.

Great video Mike! I guess I have too many channels configured for notifications because I'm way behind in watching your adventures! KZbin is supposed to increase traffic for small channels. I have never been interested in AM; always seem to require all the big-iron! However after looking at some of those old AM transmitters all dolled-out with chrome (like the late-50's cars), they do look nice. I also would thing more are becoming available and they all deserve to have a good home! So, they are tempting but I also don't need a divorce at the moment! I do however love looking into the theory, and having you as a tour-guide is really a big plus--so thank you for all your hard work in bringing us these much needed deep-dives! 73!

Hi. Yes, Command 2x1625 modulated by a P-P 1625 used the 3rd winding to modulate the screen. And the audio 1625 excitation came from the mike directly (through transformer). What a mike!

Again, a great video and thanks for the knowledge imparted. The gold is found when we venture into the weeds! 😊 Also, you’ve got that really nice H/P 334A generator/selective voltmeter-distortion analyzer sitting under your ‘scope. I don’t remember whether the RF detector in that goes up to 10M… but you could also use that as a demonstration tool to show % improvements you made in the audio distortion as you conducted smoke tests. That is a great question! I have both old fashioned Greenlees and a couple of Step Drills. I much prefer the Step Drills.

what about using two SSB modulators and a limiter you know you use one SSB as the modulator driving a limiter then back into the second SSB modulator operating as a demodulator should sort any muck and get some clean modulation.

It's all about the tubes dissipation rating. So Class A push pull works great, and it has been popular for HiFi since the 30s. but you have to respect that the output power will be much less than with Class AB biasing.

Hi @@MIKROWAVE1 you sometimes look for video ideas. 1 might be to compare your Super Pro to your R390 for use on AM or CW.

@jerryshore8374 Thanks for the ideas. On AM the SuperPro with its Class A push Pull triode connected 6F6s and variable IF is unbeatable. On CW the R390 is very impressive, sensitivity, and selectivity wise, but it tunes too fast. Then, when you do CW on the Super Pro, it's not bad, but there can be annoying backlash. So they both have strengths and weaknesses.
