This the first Van that i have seen completely engineered out for every detail, from the weight efficiency of design(gas/brakes/tire wear), to quality components and locations. Genius. I would have to go back and look but it looked like a 7 pin connector on the hitch, and do not know if its 3.5k or 5k towing. either way i would only need 2.5k or less.

Thanks! We still have lots of cool things left to work on, but we are very excited to have our /X Series in production and being delivered to customers all over the US. Search for "Ford Transit Trailer Towing Selector". The MH1/X in this video weights 8,400 lbs, so subtract that from the GCWR of ~13,000 to get towing capacity. The towing package is Ford's "Heavy Duty Tow Package". Yes, I believe it has the round 7 pin connector. Trailer brake controller is a possible chassis option as well.

Hi. Very nice vans. Do you offer a mechanically controlled version to control almost everything instead of computers?
@ModVans8 ай бұрын
Each of our models, CV1, CV1/M and MH1 are offered on both Standard versions and /X Series. The Standard versions have more traditional RV systems like propane heating and switches than control power to devices directly. Our /X Series has giant batteries and electronically monitored and controlled systems. www.modvans.com/compare

Where/how do you fill your fresh water tanks? Where’s the gray tank? Is it heated? Thanks
@ModVans7 ай бұрын
The fresh water tanks are filled inside the garage. The gray water tank is under the van and it is heated.

@@ModVansThanks for responding. That must be a bit of a hassle reaching all the way to the back of the garage. Also, what about overflow when filling and preventing your garage from getting wet?
@ModVans7 ай бұрын
@@arkadventure2 everything in a camper van is a trade-off. It is not as easy as filling up with gas, but I don't find it to be a problem, either for access or knowing when to stop filling the tanks. The trade-off is that we don't have access holes on the outside of the van for water, the water tanks are completely removable and our water system is very simple. In this case, simplicity has served us well compared with all the issues I've seen with water systems that have complicated valves and leak prone connections.

What is the interior headroom with the pop-up in the down position? Can a 6'2" guy stand up straight inside? Some RVs have nice headroom, but then they mount the AC unit in the ceiling right in the middle of the aisle. Bumping my head or doing the limbo while trying to walk through the RV is not fun.
@ModVans2 жыл бұрын
The dimensions of all our models are available on our website: www.modvans.com/faq. With the popup top up, both the CV1 and CV1/M have 7'+ of headroom inside. With the popup top down, either is over 6'2". The MH1 is 6'4" and the A/C is only in the back over the bed.

So if part of the battery bank fails, do you need to rip the interior of the van apart to replace it?
@ModVans2 жыл бұрын
No! The entire conversion is modular. Everything can be removed for service then reinstalled. The battery is made of 120 cells that can be tested and replaced individually if necessary. The cells are expected to last 3,000 full charge/discharge cycles. That is 30 years of weekends.

What considerations were given to electrical safety - EMFs, battery fires, water on the batteries?
@ModVans2 жыл бұрын
The cells we use are brand new cells, purchased directly from one of the top 3 lifepo cell manufactures in the world. They are Lifepo cells which, like basically any material, are combustible, but much less likely to actually chain react and/or explode than the lithium nickel cobalt cells used in the highest performing EVs. The cells are UL listed which means that they are tested to meet UL standards by a third party testing facility to meet UL standards for batteries. The battery is protected from overcurrent by fuses on both the positive and negative connections. The battery management monitors individual cell groups for temperature and voltage limits. The BMS monitors the each battery module for current limits. In the event of a out of limit condition, the BMS will automatically disconnect chargers and/or the battery. The BMS is designed to be fail-safe in that the battery will be disconnected if the BMS is not running. The case is not waterproof, but it is inside the vehicle. In the event of a major liquid spill or vehicle crash, we request customers allow us to perform a battery safety inspection. With the modular conversion, the interior can be removed, the battery case opened and the individual cells can be inspected.

The build you see in the video is 8,400 lbs with a full tank of gas. We use lightweight construction and materials. The lower cabinets are balsa "skin and skeleton" construction. The upper cabinets are lightweight canvas. Most of the metal pieces are aluminum. The bed panels are aluminum honeycomb. The The bump out and popup top are composite sandwich panels (like a modern airplane).

Laurie, Leila and i just completed a month long trip across the US and we were happy with the storage. One thing to remember is that there is a huge garage in the back. Ford offers a hybrid version in Europe, but we do not believe that it will ever be offered in the US. There is an E-Transit available now. But, with 126 miles of range, it is not a fit for any customers we have spoken to. We have big plans for an E-RV, and it is going to be super cool (and highly functional), but the chassis aren't quite ready yet. why not use a powerwall?
@ModVans Жыл бұрын
Many reasons! First, there is not a great place to install a powerwall in a van. The powerwall is 45.3 in × 29.6 in × 5.75 in, and there isn't a flat wall for that in the Transit (that is why the /X Series uses a 1" thick floor battery). Second, the powerwall is designed for residential use rather than RV use. This means that the typical voltages used are different. The powerwall converts DC to A/C for output while many of our /X Series systems, including heating and A/C, are 12V for high efficiency. Third, because the powerwall isn't designed for RV use, Tesla doesn't offer a way to integrate it with typical RV systems. For example, in an RV, there are 3 possible sources of charging: solar, chassis alternator and shore power while in a home, there are only 2 typical charging sources: solar and utility power (similar to shore power).

@ModVans6 ай бұрын
There really is not much basis for comparison between the price of a house and the price of our vans. Most people buying our vans already own a home that cost more. Sure, you can buy a used house with old, crappy appliances and finishes and/or cheap construction in the middle of nowhere for $200k or even less if you want a fixer upper. In mainstream, relatively affordable locations, a middle-of-the road house costs $400k and in desirable places to live, homes costs $600k or even more. Literally, the current median home price in the US is $430k. Our customers concerned about affordability can purchase a lower cost model with less off-road capabilities and smaller batteries. Our base price is $107k and is a fully functional RV. The $200k price is for customers that want all the goodies and don't mind paying for them. With 20 year financing, the loan payment on our lower priced models is about the same as for a average price new SUV and there are 7 million new SUVs sold each year in the US.
