This still ranks as the greatest posing routine I have ever seen. IMO Makkawy and Corney were the best posers in the sport. Their routines send shivers down the spine.

I prefer the 1991 mr Olympia posing routine from Lee Labrada but it's clear that the best posers ever were around this time

Makkawy was one of the last 'human-sized' O contestants... before now in which every competitor is getting close to 300 pounds built solely upon drugs.

Incredible bodybuilder! I attended that show in Madison Square Garden. Lee Haney won his first Olympia that night and Sergio Oliva made his return to the IFBB after years away. Bob Paris was in that show, I think he took 7th. Makkaway was second, if I recall. I remember being on an elevator the day before the show with Vince and Makkaway at the Sheraton Hotel in mid-town Manhattan, where many competitors and fans were staying. I was amazed how tiny they both looked, especially in clothes. Vince seemed to be about 5’6” and Makkaway was “maybe” 5’4”. But what a great bodybuilder! Just incredible proportions, symmetry, and fullness to the muscle bellies. One of the greatest short class bodybuilders of all-time, along with Danny, Franco, and Lee Priest. Great video, John! Keep ‘em coming!

@BrownDalmatian Vince Gironda the Iron Guru and his gym with wooden benches, that produced Real Champions. I’m quite sure I’ve still got one of his books that I bought in the 80s, so I could get back some motivation. That man was a bodybuilding scientist, both in the training section, and the diet side of things. RIP Vince Gironda.

I was a sophomore in high school in Kentucky in 1984 dreaming of going to Venice someday and this was back when we had to wait until December to get muscle and fitness in the mail to find out who won because my mom would have killed me if I would have used long-distance to call a gym 😀Thank you John!
