Mohonk Labyrinth and Lemon Squeeze Trail (hike & rock scramble by the Mohonk Mountain House in NY!)

If hiking, rock scrambling, climbing ladders, and squeezing through rock crevices sounds like a fun time, you should definitely check out the Mohonk Labyrinth and Lemon Squeeze Trail in NY! We did this trail a few years ago and loved it so much, we had to come back and do it again. This isn't your average hike- there are a lot of unique obstacles to conquer in order to complete the whole trail. More details are in the video, we hope you enjoy it! Thanks for this, brings back memories, have done this maybe a dozen times on our annual company outings. Lots of fun, beautiful scenery and great views. I’d recommend gloves (e.g. work gloves) as rocks can be a but tough on your hands. Also as can be seen in the video, the last chute is very tight with a backpack, small one or none preferred. If you can afford it, the buffet lunch at the hotel is a great reward afterwards.

Thanks for creating this video! I am thinking of hiking that trail. Question: When you returned, did you have to walk back on the same trail? Or is there another way to avoid climbing all those rocks again?

@@LotusFlower4Ever You can continue on the trail and it will take you back to the beginning, you don’t have to climb back down! I hope you get to do this trail, it’s a lot of fun :)

Thank you for your vid, my wife and I are heading there for our dual birthday celebrations tomorrow, June 19, 2024, (June 19, her, June 21, me), it'll be our first time there. Although I will be 63, and she 60, I think under ordinary circumstances we could challenge ourselves with that particular trail, but I think we'll pass on it this time around, as it supposed to be in the mid 90's on the 19th. Yeah, $35.00 per hiker is blatantly outrageous and greedy on their part, however, since this is a special occasion, I think it'll be worth it. My plan is to do a hike, then head across the river to check out Hyde Park, and somewhere in between grab a lunch at an undetermined location. Thanks again for your informative vid.

So it’s a loop trail is what I’m gathering? I’m assuming for safety reasons it’s not an out and back where you have people moving down and up the ladders?

That is correct, everyone is supposed to the labyrinth in one direction.

What type of shoes do you use? Would my hokas be good enough?

I wore La Sportiva TX4 Approach hiking shoes! If your Hokas are trail runners, I think you should be ok!

I did this scramble in my beat up running shoes which have very little grip, and there were parts where my shoes were slipperier than others, and I had to shimmy across a few rocks while people with hiking boots didn't but it was very doable!
