Question:
At a point in a structural member subjected to plane stress there are normal and shearing stresses on horizontal and vertical planes through the point as shown. Determine, and show on a sketch, the principal stresses and the maximum shearing stress at the point.

NOTE: There is a typo for max shearing stress. For the third case where σp1 and σp2 have the same signs, the equation (0 - σp2 / 2) is for the case where | σp1 | < | σp2 |, please make a note of this! Problem begins at 3:04, as always thanks for watching!
