Mohun Bagan | Champions of India 2020 | Match day

Mohun Bagan is the oldest football club in Asia. Formed in 1889, the club has strong ties with the birth of nationalism in India via sport and consequently has strong ties to the Indian independence movement. Mohun Bagan has won numerous trophies in its 130-year-old club history; this national league title being their 5th since a nationwide league was established in India.
Mohun Bagan shares a deep-rooted ethnic rivalry with East Bengal, a club of immigrants from what now is Bangladesh. While this video is not a derby video, but the fact that East Bengal's failures create a substantial sense of joy amongst the Mohun Bagan fans is well documented in this video. The vice-versa is true for East Bengal as well. In the City of Joy (Kolkata), the two 100+-year-old clubs thrive on each other, and as an East Bengal supporter, it would be unjust to share one side of this remarkable cultural rivalry my city has to offer. This was by far one of the toughest days of my life as a football fan - nothing can be worse than seeing your eternal rivals celebrate a trophy in front of you - but emotions have little room for respect with a camera in your hand.
"ON THE DAY" is a series which documents the pre-match, in-match and post-match atmosphere on the very day of the game, without words or interviews or a background score- as raw as it can get.
