What an impressive first few months of 2022 by young Spargoat. 1st at Abierta Ciudad Victoria 1st at Smash Ultimate Summit 4 1st at G4 Smash Ultimate Invitational 1st at Collision 1st at Tijuana At War 1st at Low Tide City Not to mention his 2nd and 3rd place finishes at RETA 2022 and Genesis 8... Considering MSM 233 (July 5th 2021) as his jump from online to offline, the "hasn't placed less than 3rd for over a year now (at offline events) is not true. He got 6th (lost a 5th place tiebreaker to Cloudy) at SWT Central America Ultimate Regional Finals. I know that tournament "wasn't a big deal", but it still was after he won two offline MSMs. Also it hasn't even been a year since MSM 233. But yeah, that's his only placing outside of top 3 in 10-11 months. That kid is on another level.

Congrats to Spargo for his 3rd really big win. Kola did well too. Maybe I gotta stop really caring what twitch chat says but man it always feel like they will always find a way to hate on Kola. I get it Kola didn't win but it's really stupid how people will act like he's so washed when he only lost to the number 2 player this event. People act like I'm salty when I'm literally giving tons of respect to Spargo while still saying Kola did well. This is still very good for Kolas resume and the year. He's made top 8 at every single major he has been to this year so respect there and has finally broke the 7th place curse. I'm sorry you can't claim a player is washed when they literally have results like that. Does Kola have flaws in his play that need fixing? For sure but he's made a lot of progress and can't wait to see his future runs.

@@bellaluna837 I know but I feel like people are extra hard when it comes to players like Kola, he's been getting all these major top 8s in 2022 and only losing to good players yet some people still think he's overrated. I'm not sure if these people are generally this ignorant or if they're just trolling and want to get an angry reaction. Kola loses to the 2nd best player and some people claim he's so washed even though he got really good wins along the way. I guess the more popular a player is the more haters there will be sadly.

As someone who co mains both of these characters, and watches them both frequently, and analyzes mid match, i think kola honestly fumbled this whole set. He had two sets to adapt and he never did, kola also mains cloud, and hes fought spargo time and time again. Dont get me wrong spargo absolutely outplayed him, but there were so many times kola just completely misplayed, dropped a punish, didnt catch an obvious reads, look at how many jumps above ledge and rolls in from ledge spargo gets away with the entire time. Kola must have been nervous or something cause the real problem was piss poor execution and decision making. This could have been a way closer GF if kola was playing the way hes really capable of. A lot of shit spargo did was INSANELY obvious and none of it went punished ever

Sparg0 is showing that he has what it takes to eventually take the #1 spot honestly. He deserves #2 honestly and soon leo is going to have to be ready for this man. Also was crazy seeing Kola get to grand finals and hold off pretty well against Sparg0.

Kolas frametrap to win game 2 of the reset was nasty. Intentionally whiffed the fair to get spargo to drift in above his head to throw out an up air to secure spargo in disadvantage was genius and paid off huge

After ProtoBanham vs Kola, this is another top player showdown that I absolutely wanted to see. And just like I was after seeing the aforementioned set, I'm disappointed after watching these ones. This was so... one-sided. I wasn't particularly rooting for anyone here as I like both players about equally (so I was... far less s/mad lol), but I still wanted to see way closer sets. Kola did 3 stock Sparg0 though... the only game he won. Other than that, I'm beginning to wonder if recovery really is a weakness I can ignore like a lot of people have been doing lately. I'm also realizing the importance of angle and ability to snap ledges even on bad recoveries. Cloud has a bad/mediocre recovery, but as long as he has a double jump or Limit, it feels like he should recover in a lot of matchups (which feels a little weird to say I know). The vertical angle and Cloud's sword seem to really help him recover vertically, he can snaps ledges well, he can also do side B mixups... Climhazzard seems harder to edgeguard than Blazer, the later which has a more diagonal recovery angle, making positioning easier for opponents I think. I wonder if characters like say, Captain Falcon can trade with Climhazzard and spike Cloud though (bet they can). Roy's spike kinda sucks by the way (which is a shame lol), I can't picture him spiking Cloud much unlike other characters. Also... is it me, or Cloud (slightly) beats Roy ? Essentially, I think it's not easy for Roy to get in against Climhazzard and Cross Slash. I was also surprised at Cloud's ability to edgeguard Roy even with his down air. Roy, on the other hand, seems to have a harder time edgeguarding Cloud. But maybe Kola didn't use Blazer much here also. Still, feels like true swordies like Lucina or Shulk would fare better than Roy against Cloud. And one last thing... is it me again, or is Cloud top tier ? Besides (especially) edgeguarding, and maybe comboing and juggling (although less significantly), counterplay against this character seem very limited. Great frame data, sword so disjoints and priorities, free up B oos, good mobility, heavy weight making him hard to kill unless you gimp him, good and versatile comeback mechanic, making Climhazzard great and even making Finishing Touch reminiscent of Wario Waft... I wouldn't be surprised if he also didn't lose to more than about 10, or say, 15 characters. I know people might say " no it's just Sparg0 ", but Tea is the only relevant great Pac-Man player and everyone and their dog think this character is top tier. So, why not a character like Cloud ? I view this character as a low top tier or a upper high tier. Think I'm too optimistic about him ? If so, why ?
