Like everyone has said, I think at this point we can firmly established that Sparg0 has indeed surpassed Leo. Leo is just too inconsistent now. Sparg0 has hit top 8 if not outright won every non invitational major in his entire competitive history dating all the way back to port riptide 2021 (which many consider the official return of competitive ultimate post pandemic). This hot streak of winning Major Upset, Kagaribi 10 and now BoBC 5 will guarantee him a spot at rank 1 for ultrank 2023, assuming they split it off into winter/spring and then summer/fall like the PGR did.

@@Yokai_YuriRiddles has legitimately top 8’d multiple tournaments with almost if not completely solo Terry, as well as nearly beating Leo with Ken at EVO. acola recently beat Yoshidora with Aegis and can farm the majority of Japan with his secondaries. Yes, both of those chars are obviously very good as well, but that is what Smash is, for the most part, people using the best chars to bring out the full extent of their talent. “but blocks and Ewgf” doesn’t take away from how good they are, it just helps them get further, because that is what char’s do. Your logic suggests that everyone should play a singular char like Pit or Lucina because tier’s must inherently make a game unbalanced for it to work and we shouldn’t respect any of the inevitable bullshit in this game.

I really wonder what secondary Acola should invest in now to have a better fighting chance against Sparg0. He definitively can't just get away with using one of his too many pocket characters, that much has been proven. He needs to focus on one of them and use it in real tournaments a bunch, even against other top players. It will probably lead to a temporary drop in results, but it's the only way I could see him having a shot at not being stuck in second place for the rest of the year. And judging by the end, he REALLY isn't satisfied with a second place, he wants to be first.

I think Acola is still only in the process of developing, and his impatience shows in his play, although it is hard to tell with his poker face and mask. Sparg0 is stronger because he has established his own moves and is more confident. Sparg0 may start winning everything now but the First year of #65-#17 placements are writen in history forever. Jeez, how often does this happen? Sparg0 beat Acola so bad at Kagaribi that he won not only that final and that tournament, but the next one (that is, this one) as well, because Acola was still too shaken to play his own main -- with whom he beat every other opponent with in this very stacked supermajor! You can see Acola apparently weeping at the end of this video -- is he okay? As an English speaker I don't get a lot of clues about his mental state, but I hope he's not getting too down on himself. Such a great player at a young age, traveling around the world; maybe sometimes it's too much? Sparg0 had to take a mental health break himself for I think a couple months last year, so even the very best have to do some self-care.

For the past few months, in acola’s streams and Twitter, he’s been talking about how he wants to beat sparg0 and was grinding many cloud players and practicing more of his aegis. When he faced sparg0 at Kagaribi, he lost pretty hard and even his aegis couldn’t beat him. After that he was just lost on what to do and talked about how he didn’t know what to do with sparg0. Then in this tournament, he lost to Sparg0 again and I think he had a mental break down because of not being able to beat him after so much practice and training to beat Sparg0. Acola is also a player that blames him self when ever he does good or bad. I feel really sad for acola😢

I think this becomes the side effect of winning so consistently in Japan. He’s never experienced a wall like Sparg0 and I fear he’s not sure how to handle it mentally (obviously this is speculation). Leo had to deal with Zero early on and Sparg0 had Leo so they understood the pressure of the climb. Even now there are so many hidden bosses in Mexico and people who don’t have enough support to be able to play more, but they start playing smash so early. I lived in Mexico for a couple years and you see people playing smash on their switches everywhere.

Coast to coast Acola against Sparg0 again in Grand Finals, it's incredible how they meet each other again in Finals. While Sparg0 is just kryptonite for Acola, he had no chance... which I kinda like because it seems - of all the players - Sparg0 is the only one who can shut Steve down comfortably.

I really, REALLY HOPE Acola can shut down Sparg0 right back with his DK given some more time to practice. That timeline would be HYPE! Though Sparg0 would then likely switch to Aegis, and Acola might be better off playing Steve again or the Aegis ditto. Lots of potential counterpick wars in the future of Acola vs Sparg0!

I would love to see Acola master another character. I do not blame him for playing steve, the character obviously suits him incredibly well and although IMO Steve isn't quite balanced enough I cannot blame Acola one bit for wanting to compete at the highest level with the best character, but I would be so cool to see how well he could do with another character. DK is hype but I think his ceiling is a bit low and I think he's pretty simple and while people love to see him kill, I think its lame when he just up throw upairs off a platform for 80% of his killed (even though that's just how you play the character optimally).
